I like that AJ was the one noticing that Scootaloo was acting strange. AJ commonly takes the Team Mom role in groups, and compared to the other two adults on the trip, it made sense for her being able to see something was wrong while the others could not
 
Also, is it me it did it seem that AJ knew that Scootaloo was frightened after a certain point in the episode? But chose to keep it secret to spare the filly from feeling embarassed?

Scootalove is canon, and that’s fine by me. Though I wish a couple of lines that were given to AJ had been spoken by RD instead. Those asking Scoots if she was OK, basically. Would it have been stronger to show Dashie with some slowly evolving sensitivity, leaving AJ to concentrate on common sense questioning of the spooky stories in a fun way? She can’t be everypony’s big sister all the time.
 
Also Rarity: comic relief. Tabitha: nearly half the speaking roles.

Depends if the writer hates Dash. She got hit really hard in Season 2. let’s hope they treat her like an actual character this time.

So we at last have an episode that didn’t make me want to break Rainbow Dash’s neck with a 5 iron. The only question is will Wonderbolt Academy keep her likable or make her a jerkass again?
