Roger Taylor isn’t one of the greatest drummers of all time (Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, and Bill Bruford all played on a much higher level than Roger ever did), but he along with Brian May and John Deacon are very underrated compared to Freddie Mercury.
The songs sung by Brian May and Roger Taylor are not only good songs (except the car one), but it proved that Queen didn’t even need Freddie Mercury to be a good rock group. He was simply just an addon to make the band better. Without him we wouldn’t have The March of the Black Queen (the greatest Queen song). Singers are usually good but unless they play another instrument (piano does not count since Brian May could also play it), they are the least important member of the group, and Freddie Mercury is not an exception. He is a great but overrated singer.
If I was given the option to sacrifice Roger Taylor to bring back Freddie Mercury, I would refuse to do so.
All I hear is hipster talk.
