A duck will always choose to be pedantic instead of practical to extend an already dead argument.
 
If you want to tell us the CMC were as controversial to the extent AND the length of time as Starlight, that is objectively a lie.
 
The main characters all have haters, yes, but they are the outliers. None of them had truly mixed receptions.
 
The show would not have gotten popular if they did, this is obvious.
 
And while Twilight did got some excess negative but warrented attention between S3 and S5 and some onword, no one has compared Starlight’s popularity with Twilight or any of the main cast.
 
The easy thing about being a duck in this situation is that you can start and restart arguments regarding popularity, and overall popularity doesn’t have an exact number to it…you simply have to deny basic observation and call everyone else biased.
 
You could say that the vampire Twilight Saga Books are still very popular, and simply say our personal bias is making us say otherwise.

But that’s not true. Each of the mane six have their haters and their rabid fans, and they were very active back in the day. Lets also not forget how controversial the CMC were when they were first introduced.
