Description

Bleeeeeh, I don’t know how I feel about this any more. This started as a sketch I made of the art of the Magic: the Gathering card, Duress, as a pony. I figured I’d paint it with Pinkamina, just ‘cos she’s my go-to nervous-breakdown-pony.

In the beginning stages of this painting I loved it – I made a choice early on to kinda forgo my usual pony face structure to make it a little more like the card, and a lot more, well, strange. Which, honestly, I like. Not something I’d do for most pieces, but I feel like it works more or less here.

But alas, as it progressed I ran into problems. I’m not a huge fan of how I painted the eye, and I wanted the eyes to be watery an’ have a tear forming, but I had no idea how to paint that. I kinda guessed, it sorta works, but I think it looks kinda, eh, crude, I s’pose. An’ hair continues to give me problems. Tried another similar-but-different way of doing it this time. It’s closer to what I want, but I think the next thing I’m gonna paint is a bunch of quick, simple head shots to try to resolve how I want my pony faces and manes to look.

I wanted to do more background and foreground elements, an’ more for the hair, but I started gettin’ sick of it an’ I know that means I better let it be. XD
