No, I’m 100% right, because an opinion can never be wrong.
I’m not saying that was a good thing. It wasn’t. That was absolutely a problem.
But if the Mane Cast being made useless in order to make other characters look good is a problem, then Friendship Games was guilty of it just as much. And in a worse way too, IMO. At least in Mirror Magic, the HuMane Five were legitimately taken by surprise all at once by Juniper’s mirror. Sci-Twi’s magic-draining device drained each of the girls individually for a total of five separate times, took way longer to happen, and yet none of the HuMane Five realized what was happening until way later.
you’re half right.
So you’re fine with the entire mane cast being made useless so that Glimmer can look good?
I’m really not sure what would even warrant calling Mirror Magic worse than FG. Juniper turned into an unimpressive monster of the week, and Starlight solved the problem on her own without Sunset? If those are the only two, then it simply can’t compare to FG’s litany of problems.
fify
I completely disagree. Mirror Magic was at least tolerable. Friendship Games was a complete farce.
Mirror Magic is objectively worse in every way.
Nah. Mirror Magic is on the bad end of the spectrum, but is nowhere near as offensively awful as Friendship Games.
nope, still the worst.
Mirror Magic was simply disappointing. It wasn’t great, but there wasn’t anything horribly wrong with it either. Meanwhile Friendship Games felt like it did everything it could to insult the audience’s intelligence.
That’s not how you spell Mirror Magic….
While we may have to agree to disagree about Sunset and Rainbow Rocks, I wholeheartedly encourage you to tear Friendship Games to shreds at every opportunity. That movie is the most awful thing to ever be associated with Gen4 MLP.
Why did you even watch enough of it to know who she is? If it’s so “damaging”, why not just leave it alone?
But people in this thread have been claiming an entire spin-off should unilaterally be declared non-canon based on a minor detail they claim is a giant plot hole which they then reject any theories that could address it and any possible way they might be able to ignore it like they would for countless other plot holes, but nope. And certainly just ignoring it and letting the people who enjoy it have it is out of the question.
I could probably come up with equally ridiculous reasons to claim whatever I please isn’t canon (and already have for season 8, as shown), but if that wouldn’t make my proclamations valid, why should it do so for someone else (other than “because I’m right and you’re wrong”.)?
not a “mind rape” otherwise you’d have to count luna and count glimmers massive amount of brainwashing.
Wallflower’s the least of my problems with EqG. :U if I like or am okay with a certain (minor) aspect of EqG, I leave it alone; those details don’t do any damage.
Yes, but her citizens don’t know that. Having something so big and blatant in plain sight might damage their confidence in her, especially once centuries have passed and the truth of Nightmare Moon has become an ancient legend few are even aware of (the way things were at the start of the first episode.) Without the faith of her ponies, Celestia’s ability to govern, and especially to govern by influence rather than force, would be vastly diminished if not outright crippled.
Maybe she could have kept it somewhere more private, but I’d have to check the throne room screencaps and see if they look like they can be moved.
But for now, I think I’ve led us WAY off topic and should drop it.
@DiscipleOfAndrewRyan
Edit button doesn’t give me nearly long enough to respond to this giant wall of text.
But wow, for someone with a Wallflower Blush avatar, you sure do seem to hate Equestria Girls.
Edited
and I have just as many freakin’ problems with EqG 2 and 3 as I do with 1, if not more. everything is worse because of those two movies, especially Sunset’s development! nothing is gradual in that world – everything happens abruptly and out of the blue!
@Ihhh
@Scrounge
and did you forget? EqG has virtually no connection to FIM, so if the latter contradicts the former, there is no point in carrying the show on any further.
@LanceOmikron
Well hey, even in indisputable canon she’s been able to perform her duties over the 1k years despite having constant reminders of her Sister’s fall. She mentioned to Twilight that she disliked the Summer Sun Celebration due to the ponies hailing it as a celebration of the defeat of Nightmare Moon, whereas to her it was just a reminder of that fateful night when she had to banish Luna. And then there’s the moon itself, which she raised every night and which bore the Mare in the Moon.
Exactly, but if it comes at the expense of being able to perform her duty, she might decide she can’t risk letting that reminder become her new greatest failure.
Giving herself a constant reminder of her greatest failure certainly seems in-character for Celestia. I can dig it.
…Yeah, I don’t even know how I feel about the throne room thing any more. In my defense, it’s a symbolism thing and not a continuity one. Sitting next to Luna’s empty throne for centuries would be a powerful gesture of self-admonishment, but it’d also probably weird out the courtiers and might even paint Celestia as whatever the heroic equivalent to Caligula is. (As a side note, if you had trouble wrapping your brain around the phrase “heroic equivalent of Caligula,” you’re not alone.)
