When I saw that scene all that came to mind was “Aww adorable!” Then I thought of the spongebob movie… “BALD! BALD!” As well as Pinkie from the Crank Episode.

@Matta, well Applejack’s Mark glimmered when she was talking to Bloom about Babsveing a blank flank, my guess is that Ponies have sparklely magic on the flanks to draw attention to their cutie arks. Why? I suppose there would be a few situations were you need to show off the Mark without just pointing at it.

So are Blank Flanks enchanted or what? In fact, do the flanks of ponies magically shimmer in general? They seem to emit a shine whenever the camera focuses on them.
 
I know out of universe it’s to direct attention to the presence (or lack ) of a Cutie Mark, but it does make me wonder if the shimmer exists in-universe. And, if so, does it shimmer often?
