Not in FoE. NCN never really addressed them, and had no intention of addressing them, because he didn’t care much about the comics’ canon. All hints in canon lead to the Everfree Forest having no inhabitants, and there were no plotlines to my knowledge that would explore the idea that any species once lived in the Everfree.
@Background Pony #FE12
Years ago, Schorl pitched the idea that the caribou kingdom wasn’t the caribou’s original homeland. The idea is that in the FoE universe, the Everfree deer left Everfree forest over a millennium ago and migrated there, and then over time became the caribou. So Thicket has essentially been deserted for over a millennium. In Schorl’s stories, Luna eventually has it rebuilt to confine the surviving caribou there after Dainn’s death. In fact, you can read about that a little bit in Schorl’s story Legacy of Dainn over on fimfiction. I had planned to take my stories there as well eventually, but I canceled my FoE stories over a year ago due to lack of time and health-related reasons, and to an extent lack of interest (although I’m still a bit sad about it).
@Background Pony #1C65
Obviously Cantalonia is where the half cat/half antelopes (known as Cantaloupes) live. Kidding :P Who knows what that is suppose to be.
@hm149
I actually changed that name because Ubuntu has an anthropocentric connotation, and that doesn’t really fit the setting. In my story, the city is called Indaba now.
Do you guys know why this isn’t shown any more? I can still get here by following the link, but searching for any of the tags doesn’t show it any more.
[edit] Never mind. One of the tags was just somehow added to my filter. Odd…
Imho he should have scrapped the catastrophe and instead have the caribous recently start exploring the rest of the world. Makes perfect sense to me that neither the ponies nor the caribou would know about each other with an ocean between them.
@Anon-a-Miss
Well look at that, somebody found something in FoE that doesn’t really make sense when you stop and think of it. Congratulations, that is the fanfic story equivalent of finding a needle in a factory that specifically makes needles.
To answer the question though, I believe that the person who created this setting thought it was “unbelievable” for the caribou to simply be a normal invading force, as they were so powerful and evil that they had to be of on their own isolated continent to exist in the way the creator wanted. If they had known about the ponies, or vice versa, then they would have either taken over Equestria long ago (As they were always depicted as being “The most powerful things on the planet”), or more likely Celestia would have figured out a way to stop them before they took over the world. At the very least Equestria would have prepared themselves for their arrival, and would have never let a large scale invasion force set foot on Equine soil.
So because the caribou needed an “excuse” to leave their homelands, where they ruled unopposed and thought they were the center of the universe, NCN blew it up, and made (as you put it) a bunch of refugees who should have been on short supply and understaffed take over what could be seen as the most prosperous nation in the world in the time frame of a single year, because they are “super sneaky” and took over and converted bunch of kingdom under the radar, one of which being the Crystal Empire of all places.
Is all of this incredibly silly, yes. It is also par for the course for this setting.
Ok since we have some FoE-expert (If you can call it that) here, there’s something that has always been bugging me. Does any of you guys know the reason why the Caribou were made refugees instead of simply being invaders? If it was an attempt to make them more sympatric by giving them a tragic backstory, it obviously failed. Instead it just make their whole conquests rather unbelievable. I mean what kind of refugees have the time and resources to take a group of gigantic, fire-breathing war beasts onto their ships?
Joke aside, I think if his ships and navigational abilities were that bad, he shouldn’t have been able to reach Lindisbarne alive at all. Particularly in the kinds of waters you’re describing.
@Aristagtle
He has the slowest ship ever built, was going against the wind the whole way, in glacial waters, and got lost and ended back in the caribou lands a few times. Does that cover the time difference? :P
I did notice a few issues with this map. For example, this is pretty much due to the limitations of inkarnate, but the differences can’t be to scale. Dainn’s journey supposedly took several months at least, but the distance is only twice the distance between Ponyville and Canterlot - a distance that takes at most half a day to travel by train. Even if Dainn has the slowest ships anyone ever built, this is still hardly plausible. Thus, it is quite possible that I might do another map by some other means at a later point in time. So yeah, this is pretty much provisory and all of it will possibly be subject to revision. It should however give you a general idea of most of the locations that’ll appear in my stories.
@Vallytine
Abyssinia is actually a place mentioned in the My Little Pony Movie Prequel comics. It’s the place where Capper originally came from before he got to Klugetown. So that name is actually not my idea, it’s Hasbro’s (or IDW’s, I guess). Interestingly enough, according to the Wiki, Abyssinia was also mentioned in two episodes in the show itself, though only in passing.
Using the name Catalonia for the cat kingdoms on the northeastern continent was my idea, but I got it after seeing the name Abyssinia in the comics. I think I already mentioned that I might change that name in the future if people don’t like it.
Got it.

Understood, the reason I was so curious was because I thought the deer under King Aspen lived there.

That doesn’t explain what happened. Obviously something nasty, but not much else.
Where you think the caribou came from?
Catalonia is actually a play on Catalonia, the Spanish province. And obviously, it’s inhabited by cats, just like Abyssinia. XD

Equestria: Ponies
Griffonstone: Griffons
Crystal empire: Crystal Ponies
Yakyakastain: Yaks
Zebrica: Zebras
Saddle Arabia : Ponies
Glowing wastes: Caribou (formerly)
Land of the Hippogryphs: Hippogryphs (the name is self explanatory)
Elsweyr: Khajiit (assuming for obvious reasons)
Cantalonia: Unknown (all I do know is that its name is probably a play on Babylonia)
I actually changed that name because Ubuntu has an anthropocentric connotation, and that doesn’t really fit the setting. In my story, the city is called Indaba now.

FoE has plot holes? I’m shocked. XD

Did you just liken Dainn to Odysseus? :P

Hey there. Glad to see ya here Ted. I on here from time to time, usually when I upload art related to Eqestria Trainers’ Society.
Fair point. (Though to be honest, does NCN truly get along with anyone?)
Also, I did not expect Schorl Tourmaline to be on the Booru, much less answer my question. Hello!
