I haven’t watched them yet. But if the screenshots from them are proof… I might like them more than G4.
Mainly because of how much more intense these were compared to now.
Yup! That thing made me watch some of G1 ponies :p

Edit: Nevermind. This was actually a part of the visuals used to describe the ponies paranoia of Island Ponies so no one actually died… Still very dark though.

Yeah, true on both counts. (I actually had an Arthur book as a kid.)
As a kid I actually liked alot of cartoons & movies that were both cute & dark at the same time. Like Don Bluth movies, and “Little Nemo Adventures in Slumberland.”
also PBS shows also dark sometimes example arthur did episode about death and cancer
the Faces aren’t even scary most of the time and some kids do like to be scared.
unfortunately some people think kids shows need to be as tame as humanly possible
One guy here told me the facial expressions scared him and are partly why he doesn’t like to watch it anymore.
I don’t get that, as I always liked the silly exaggerated cartoony expressions, and they never really get to very disturbing/edgy levels like SpongeBob, or Ren & Stimpy. At least MLP still keeps it’s innocence, despite it’s edgy moments.
If there were no edge, or dark moments, it’d just be like some boring PBS kid show.

Boy, even cartoons from the Super Nintendo era look old now!
I kinda miss that old hand-drawn look though, everything looks like a Flash cartoon now.
Except this was 1992.
