I just like how their depictions here make them look both dangerous and yet trustworthy at the same time. Or rather, you can see how and why someone might trust them for a brief while.

Indeed. Normally I give a lot of comics benefit of the doubt since the show can be pretty ridiculous and non-consistent at times as well, but that particular issue was completely hogwash. Ironically, the Fiendship book’s central ideas were passed down from Hasbro, not the IDW writers themselves.

Although I’m much less interested in EQG related stuff than FIM stuff,  
this is pretty cool twist for them to be the ‘origin point’ villains.  
It is fitting too, because these monsters have the power to forcefully induce the opposite of friendship in ponies.

So uhhh upon reading the full comic this pretty much elivated the Dazzlings into being the origin point villains of the entire series. They are the reasons the Pillers got together, and as such why the Elements were created which is what fuels pretty much everything going forward. They are now some of the most important characters in the setting.
