How about this; let’s say that a famous author arrives in town, searching for “inspiration” for her next book. Suspicious incident occurs, author leaves, replete with ideas for the next novel, though perhaps she needs to make a few more stops, check out the local ruins for “greater realism,” etc.
Fast-forward post-publication. The town is now swarmed by fans, asking if Daring Do was really here. ‘No,’ say the townspeople. ‘But that A.K. Yearling was.’ Thus, the secret of Daring’s existence is kept quiet.
Naturally, there are holes in this theory, such as why the same setup wasn’t used in Somnambula. However, it would adequately explain how the double-identity was kept secret for so long, at least until some unknown event forced Daring to show her hoof in Somnambula.

It’s important to note Caballeron is one of the few MLP villains who actually attempts to murder somebody.
Another one is Ahuizotl. Daring Do lives a dangerous live. Good thing her enemies prefer death traps over straight-out murder.

granted this is a show for an intended younger audience so yea they would have to go with the mature rating if they did most of the things the audience thinks they do..most Saturday morning baddies do the death trap thing or the monologue or brag..instead of getting to the point.

I suppose it’s just human nature. By pulling out emotions from words, we are able to identify the entity we are talking to as another human being and not an animal, robot, or pretty much anything that is unfamiliar and may do us harm. Statements devoid of any emotion in particular tend to come off as cold and standoff-ish and aren’t exactly associated with positive feelings.

Having Daring Do be real always stretched suspension of disbelief; this episode just gleefully tap-danced all over that suspension. Which didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would, actually.

Hey, no need to get upset. I’m just throwing out one possible explanation for the discrepancy. It’s by no means the definitive answer. If you have another theory, I would love to hear it.

Admittedly, that was the one thing that conjecture couldn’t explain away. Even I’m not sure how that could be accounted for.

After watching “Daring Done”, I interpreted Quibble’s complaints as directed towards the manner in which A.K. Yearling writes about Daring Do’s adventures, and not Daring Do’s actual exploits in and around Equestria. Essentially, he’s upset that Yearling has changed writing styles and in his eyes, exaggerated the feats of Daring Do to unrealistic proportions.
But when Daring Do saves his sorry flank, he actually states in disbelieve “You’re really!” So he had no idea that Daring Do actually existed.

^This, plus RD and Twilight’s reaction to learning Daring Do also existing back in S4.

Pixel Perfection - I still call her Lightning Bolt
Solar Supporter - Fought against the New Lunar Republic rebellion on the side of the Solar Deity (April Fools 2023).

If any of you manage to create a coherent headcanon out of this, I will be very impressed. Frankly I can hear the writers screaming ‘don’t think about this too deeply, please’ every time they bring up her secret identity.

One user on EQD put it best:

“Daring Do was never seen as a fictional character. She is seen as real, and Yearling is only writing about her adventures. The only secret that exists is that Yearling and Daring Do are the same person.”

MLP bad guys…well the minor ones are kinda dumb and this is a kids show after all but i agree you would think he would use that against her in the means of blackmail and such.
