What Oliver said. “Salam” in the sense of the picture is a form of greeting, like the “happy” in “happy birthday”; it just happens to be a loan word in Malay that was borrowed from Arabic, and doesn’t 100% always relate to religion.
I don’t think that’s necessarily Islamic… I tried looking up Salam merdaka and all I could find was something about Malaysia. But Salam means peace not just in Islam, but in the Arabic language in general.
