I strongly believe this is a case where, had the plot not been so blatant about showing a side of Ember/Thorax that we had never seen before, the fanbase would have to cut Spike a break and admit he was mostly justified. He had valid reasons to think Ember and Thorax wouldn’t hit it off and would probably dislike each other a lot. And the 2 ADULTS (one of which is the supposed world expert on friendship) ended up doing nothing to ease his worries, but instead made it worse and didn’t see the problem either.
 
And yet, 99% of the fanbase just blames it all on Spike,  
Because its a Spike episode so if anything goes worng, it can only be his fault…

Aye. Spike was worried and Twilight started to calm him down… then flipped it around and got him worked up again.
 
Then Thorax showed up, and starlight said it was no big deal… then she said it WAS a big deal, and instead of either of them asking thorax/ember their opinion offhandedly about the other, they keep them in the total dark.
 
Yes, spike panicked, and yes, twilight and starlight made it worse and no, he didn’t do the right things during said panic, but Twilight and Starlight are just as, if not more guilty of causing these problems and making them worse.
 
Spike knows Ember and is friends with her, but she’s still a brute, doesn’t know how to tone it down, was already the daughter of the massive previous Dragon Lord Torch, and has reasons to believe a “prissy pony” moment could really piss her off, so yeah he’s shaken up about her coming to ponyville, the magnetic center for 90% of “bad things” to hit.
 
Thorax, on the flipside, is exceedingly kind and soft and probably the closest friend to Spike of all. However, that softness scares Spike. Spike doesn’t want Ember to run into Thorax due to any possible misunderstanding between them and, as shown, the potential war.
 
Thorax changing into a vicious beast to defend Spike? Spike never saw it coming. Ember willing to fight to protect Spike? She did it once before, but the bloodstone scepter was on the line, here there was nothing BUT Spike.
 
SO yeah, Spike has a BOATLOAD on his mind and Twi and Starlight were not really helping.

This is something I’ve seen most people overlook in order to focus all the face-palming on Spike, because its easier. Neither Twilight or Starlight saw the obvious either. They thought Spike had to keep them apart as well. They were just as mistaken, yet no one ever puts any blame on them even though they’re the adults and Twilight should be better at this stuff than either of them already.

Why no one can guess to do art with bear Thorax and Fluttershy?

I was expecting Ember to snap his neck.

It’s bear-ly TV-Y material.

That would pacify the Thorax need Fluttershy and Ember Rainbow Dash!

I actually kind of find it funny that there is a TV-Y rating in this image, even if it’s not intentional. Like it’s supposed to be not appropriate with the rating above it.

This scene was special and kinda sorta qualifies for Spikelove.
 
Thorax sees Spike being yelled at and instantly changed into a beast to defend him, and on the flipside, Ember saw a beast near Spike and went to defend him, showing how they would put aside their more petty issues in support of his safety.
 
I don’t think Spike was handled quite the idiotball I expected as both Twilight and Starlight made plenty of mistakes along the way.
