She knows it; she doesn’t want to admit it, but dooming Equestria is the last thing she wants. My take on it is this: it’s her way of begging Twilight to help her, to show her a better way.

Not really. Without the scroll they can’t just go back to the present. And with how slowly Starlight was tearing it she’s not giving herself anytime to stop the rainboom. All she was doing was trapping Twilight and herself in the past.
