Yeah, I guess you’re right.
It’s also due to her attitude: sporty, tomboyish, headstrong and confrontational. Those are also, for better or worse, lesbian stereotypes.
Besides, when we make the assumption that Rainbow Dash is lesbian, it’s mostly for fun. She might just as well be straight or bi (fortunately for SoarinDash shippers).

Seriously tho, the only reasons we associate a rainbow with gay are because of the whole gay pride rainbow of diversity and the fact that a rainbow is/was considered girly so if a male liked rainbows they would be considered gay. Rainbow is a girl and I highly doubt her mane has anything to do with the gay pride movement.
