Well Tom Araya happens to be a devout Catholic. Not really something that springs to mind when you think about Slayer. There is a degree of informal convention in this sort of music that is easy to miss which is evident during the times of school shootings and whatnot.

Well he is an entertainer. Like Eminem I tend to discount a lot of the stuff he says ‘in character’.

I’m trying to be delicate because I also like ^some ratm songs although the new group that he’s in now with a new singer, sounds waay past its expiration date. And it’s coming from a guy who’s a fan of 90s metal.
 
He’s still a walking contradiction. Sometimes positive messages (and chilled interviews) mixed with call for violence and theft (although they call it “seizing”). Advocating for what basically is the economic and social death sentence isn’t exactly the best idea. Anti-authoritarian (those songs are the best for this reason) while advocating for the most oppressive and genocidal ideology. His hero is a thug who, although looking like a free-thinking rebel, as all old-fashioned communists hated everyone country was literally North Korea, hated jazz and rock (the story of Paquito d’Rivera is something all Hollywood celebrities should know), fair trial etc. I could go on for hours. 
Duality of man? Misguided education in a country that didn’t suffer at the hands of his ideology?

And Tom Morello’s politics aren’t exactly that out there. He has the Elenor Roosevelt Award of all things, not exactly the domain of bomb throwing anarchists. His music may be a little overwrought sometimes, but he’s a fairly standard socialist.

A walking contradiction this guy. At the very least he’s not all about poisonous illogical bloody divisive political messages and also talks about being nice to people. I guess. That’s something. Great tempo too. Honest.
