This was a very lovely moment. And moments like this shows why Starlight was the perfect choice to be Maud’s close friend. She can empathize and even sympathize with Maud and her struggles of fitting in and being potentially excluded.

On one hand ponies tend to mostly be inclusive as individuals and as a whole. They are accepting in away humanity often isn’t.
 
But they are imperfect. the ponies the exclude maud would do so without realizing it. She would just seem uninterested and would leaave her be. A withdrawn pony like her has a hard time with others who are more expressive.
