This has probably been said before, but maybe it wouldn’t have been as surprising if the wing sparkles Thorax got were seen in an earlier Crystal Empire episode, then proceeded by E25 with another colourful change, making it easier to believe Starlight’s sudden nonsense theory, as in she may have come up with it in an act or two before the Chrys confrontation. :T

I like the way his expression looks like he’s thinking, “Wait… I helped deliver hundreds of my people from servitude and constant misery like some kind of Bug Moses, and people are mad about it because we’re colorful or whatever and we’re finally happy for literally the first time in our entire existence?”.
Plus it is kind of fitting when you think about it. To borrow a physics concept, they began as a kind of “love blackbody”… consuming any sort of love in their vicinity, but not giving off any of their own. And when they learned to release it, in accordance with the bright, happy colors most magic of that sort is depicted in the show, they became colorful themselves.
