As the daughter of Canterlot elites, Primrose’s first language is Prench (Equestrian French). She can speak English just fine, but it’s not exactly her language of choice. Prim finds it disheartening whenever she meets a seemingly eligible stallion and discovers he cannot speak Prench. Thus, part of her has given up on the prospect of finding somepony to love.  
Meanwhile, Discovery is madly in love with Primrose. He first met her when he was in college in Canterlot, and he hasn’t taken his mind off her since. Despite being quiet, shy, and a bit socially awkward, Discovery is trying to learn Prench so he can surprise Primrose and win her heart. He knows the chances of a common, humble pomology student like him winning the heart of a beautiful, wealthy mare like Primrose are slim, but it won’t stop him from trying. He will do whatever it takes to win the mare of his dreams.
