Background Pony #ACD7
@Background Pony The player (in this case, the Riolu on the left) is from the future. This scene is shortly after they and their partner (who’s from the present) changed history, and shortly before the player disappears due to the fact that the future they came from will now no longer exist.

@Ahmed
Playing the first games is not required, as neither references the other and you won’t miss anything important.
As to whether you like it… the story and the fact that you play as a Pokemon with no humans is the main selling point, but the gameplay can make or break it for you. It’s a roguelike/dungeon crawler, and especially later in the game it will become difficult, sometimes making you want to hurl your DS across the room. If you do want the second game, buy Explorers of Sky, as it has one more Pokemon, an extra storyline level, and features to make the game easier.

I started replaying this game recently and now that I look at it after watching MLP Wigglytuff reminds me so much of Pinkie Pie. Not just the look either but I mean even their constant upbeat attitude seems similar.

Not necessary, I completed the main story of the sequel and I saw no references whatsoever to the first games (I was quite dissapointed with that actually).

PS: Bring a bucket; those tears won’t collect themselves.

@El_bruno
Thanks for the run-down, do I HAVE to know anything about the first games, or can I jump right into the sequels?
El_bruno

The first games (one for GBA and one for DS) are pretty standard, although they do have their share of heart-wrenching moments. Their sequels (both for DS)… Holy shit their sequels!

In all seriousness, the gameplay of Mistery Dungeon is nothing like the main series, and it can be frustrating at times, but it’s enjoyable (as long as you aren’t as stupid as to let yourself die and lose your money and half your items RRRRRGGGG!!! ).
