@Jarkes
Stadium isn’t quite as informative IMO.
And yeah, I remember seeing a brony bashing Sonic fans for making “lame recolor characters.” His DA gallery was literally full of pony images stolen off Google, and literally MS Paint recolored into his OCs. I saw a Sonic fan complaining about bronies, but doing the same thing in reverse.
It’s really ironic the so-called “fandom rivalry,” as both fanbases do the same things they hate the other for doing.
Though, nowadays the hostility torwards bronies is actually quite common on message boards.
Sonic Stadium’s pretty bad from what I’ve seen.
I was referring to the reactions from the Sonic fandom side, where the hatred is equally just as bad. A year ago, I tried out the Official Sonic IDW group in Facebook. Whenever MLP is brought up, the comments are always hostile with crude memes and death threats. Admins being the IDW staff have to close the comments in those posts, albeit with slow response when dealing with real-time chats.
Would you say Sonic Stadium like a counterpart to EqD?

There’s actually quite a few bronies who are also Sonic fans, (in fact, in the earlier days, many Sonic fans migrated to the brony fandom) and in fact, the Sonic discussion thread in the Derpibooru forums are practically drama-free, and everyone seems to get along in there just fine.
So maybe the hate isn’t as bad as you think. In fact, the Sonic drama has died down, and the Sonic spam troll mass-upload sessions don’t get as much attention as they used too.
A bit odd in TV Tropes, under article Friendly Fandom and segment Inter-media/General, “The Vocal Minorities of both fandoms seem to unreasonably hate each other for no reason, leading to Equestria Daily banning Sonic-related content.”
Fandom Rivalry is mutually disdainful. Sonic fans are just as vengeful as the hate in derpibooru. It is why I take responsibility for every crossover fans’ protection.

That’s pretty cool, I still can’t find the new replacement IDW series anywhere though… So I haven’t seen any of it. I hear it’s good though.

See? Not all bronies hate your commissions. :)
And now Neo Metal Sonic ended up being the main villain of the first arc of the IDW comic.
“Deity lifeform data has been copied.”
Honestly, Ian’s been probably the least-biased writer on the comic, and as I said he actually has used characters & thibgs he disliked in the comics before, and portrayed them fairly. He even flat out stated he tries not to let his personal opinions on the Sonic franchise influence how he writes.
Compared to Ken Penders, (prefered his OCs over the game & SatA.M. characters, and practically bragged about making Sonic less like the games/cartoons) and Karl Bollers (The guy who practically tried to replace Sally with his OC Mina Mongoose, and famously turned Sally into a “biotch.”) Ian’s been pretty unbiased.
Ian did pick on Drago the wolf a bit, but after all the nasty crap Drago did, who wouldn’t wanna see that? ;)
(And to be fair, he was trying to build him up into a bigger minor villain, before the forced reboot.)
So, there’s a restriction against using Metal Overlord in the comics, but Metal Overlord is Ian Flynn’s least favorite character. In other words… not being allowed to use Metal Overlord is fine by him.
What I like about Ian is, he usually doesn’t let his personal preferences influence his writing. Like for example, he stated he doesn’t like Marine the raccoon (from “Sonic Rush Adventure”) but admits she’s fun to write for, and because some fans like her, he brings her back regardless. If there was more fan demand for Metal OverLord, no mandates on him, or if he could find an interesting story, or way to bring the character into the comic, he might.
But basically OverLord is just a superpowered version of Metal Sonic, so it wouldn’t be much different from the giant robots he fought before.
Surprisingly, Ian loves Big the cat, so he doesn’t always go with “popular fan opinion” either. Big is one of the most disliked characters, but regardless has some fans regardless. (They’re even bringing him back in “Lego Dimensions”)
Despite his tedious fishing levels in SA, (which are pretty short anyways) I always found him amusing, and I like Big’s more unique “Miyazaki”-like design. Plus he kicked butt in “Heroes.”
So far, Metal Overlord’s only ever been mentioned in Worlds Collide.
Yeah, I heard that too, can’t remember who, but he used to work on the Sonic comic long ago too.
I also heard that there’s been another guy trying to sue Archie over characters from the comics recently… Don’t remember the other guy’s name though…
I don’t know, though from what I heard Ken & Sega had to settle out of court, so neither party “won.” Though, I don’t know the whole story, so I’m not sure if I’m correct.
Apparently, Ken still wants to drum up more legal drama with Sega & Archie once he can afford too…
He already can make his echidna fanfiction comic with his OCs, yet even that’s still not enough. He still acts like the changes in the comic aren’t mostly his fault, (Sega never would’ve put all the new mandates, and restrictions on the comic’s new canon now, if it weren’t for him, one being the game characters can’t have “relatives.”) and tries to paint Sega & Archie as the “evil greedy corporation,” with himself as the “hero.” (Even though he wanted them to pay him to use characters, that basically look like ones they made.) Ironically, he’s the one looking very spiteful & greedy as far as Sonic fans (including some fans of him) are concerned.
If he gets the book reprints cancelled too, (which would piss me off) then pretty much all the canon he (and others) made for the book prior to the incident is dead.
So ironically, he’s just going to kill his own “legacy.”

Ken Penders during the lawsuit.
Why did who get what?
My only question is why did he get so lucky?
Not sure he could copy a being like Discord. He did copy Chaos’ through the chao creatures though. (Which is apparently why his “one-winged angel” final boss form of “Sonic Heroes” was reminiscent of Perfect Chaos.) And Chaos is a supernatural deity-like being like Discord.
Yeah, apparently they had to remove alot of characters/concepts to avoid more legal drama with Ken.
Nate Morgan wasn’t created by Ken, (he was a scrapped SatA.M. character as I stated below from the original “writer’s bible” for the series) but Nate was already killed-off a long time ago in the comic series. Not many fans cared for him anyways. (Though, it was nice the heroes had a human good-guy character to avoid that “humans are bastards” trope.)
But yeah, characters like Geoffrey, Hershey, and nearly every echidna (that isn’t Knuckles, or Finitevus) are Pender’s characters. So they’re all gone.
The ones from the games & SatA.M. show are safe though. (Such as Amy, Knuckles, Sally, Bunnie, Naugus, ect.) Some Archie-exclusive characters made by other writers like Mammoth Mogul, Mina Mongoose, Finitevus, Thrash, and such might be safe to, but I haven’t seen any of them still in the book either…
lol I kinda liked Mobie (the cavebear, right?) even if he was a goofy character concept, I admit. (Especially, his “Encino Man”-like orgin.)
I don’t think he made Betty Butterfly though, (or was claiming ownership of her, was he?) seeing as she was from an issue written by Michael Gallagher.
The thing that bugs me about Ken is, (as much as I enjoyed his stories/characters) he takes all credit for making the comic, yet doesn’t regard it’s a “team” thing, and there were other writers, artists, editors, and such who made the comic what it is, as much as he has. (At one point on Ken’s site, he wanted people to put “copyright Ken Penders” on ANY images of the comic posted online… Even though technically Archie & Sega are the majority copyright owners…)
I hate to say it, but Ken has an ego the size of Cleveland…
PS: Funny you mention Betty, I was actually planning on making my own “Betty Butterfly” fan-redesign on DA, making her look more like an anthro’ Sega Sonic character. Just for fun.
There are lots of characters that are barely been in the comics like: Bem, Mobie, Betty Butterfly, and many other creatures/characters that are really vague in the comics. Soooo I’m not surprised he claims ownership over Betty and Mobie. (I hate Mobie as he was merely a waste of creation, but that’s just me)
