I just listened to crazed ramblings on youtube read it while I did other stuff, finished it in less than a week.
Yeah, I heard the original maintained the black comedy feel of the original games, whereas PH and the spin-offs played everything a bit more straight.
But honestly, even if I did want to at least read the original Fallout Equestria, it’s so damn massive that I don’t know if I could ever find the time to binge through it all.
This is true the original was quite good, PH and it’s other spinoffs were… I won’t say terrible but they were not the same.
Tbf, most people told me that the original FOE was fairly hopeful, if very bittersweet, but it was the recursive fanfics like Project Horizons and other spin-offs that really were like how I described it.
Kek, FOE is not about “dark” and “serious” (although it has it), it’s more about “how the heck colorful ponies went to war”. If you look at it from that perspective - FOE is a marvelous example on “how to do a well-built Arcanum-style world, where magic and advance tech work together”.
I’m not trying to convince you to read it, I’m just saying that half of what you heard about it is total bullshit from people who never read it.
I’m not very familiar with FOE at all, and frankly I have no desire to read it or any of its spin-offs. Frankly, everything I’ve heard about it sounds like your typical “I must make this thing for kids DARK and SERIOUS and MATURE” tryhard edgy crap that has all the cliches in the book.
