They are soul friends. Eerie Belle works in the morgue at night. Melanne is a gothic pony fascinated with the death process.  
One holiday night, the hospital was minimally staffed due to the holiday, and Eerie sneaked Melanne in the morgue. Melanne watched her doing autopsy. Then they hugged and Melanne fell asleep. Eerie didn’t want to wake her up, so she filled out the autopsy report with Melanne in her embrace.
