But both of the Specials, Rescue at Midnight Castle/Firefly’s Adventure and Escape from Catrina, are 22 minutes each; same as any episode of FIM. While I will agree Escape from Catrina is pretty well paced (especially the uncut version with the extra song) and IMO the far better of the two specials. Rescue at Midnight Castle is kind of a mess.
 
Unless you are talking about the actual episodes of My Little Pony n’ Friends which if you take out the fact they are split into multiple 11 minute parts for most of them, they are on average much longer than episodes of FIM when combined. If you look at it from a pacing perspective alone then yeah most of them do it better due to the extra time they usually get.

Twilight is all like finally my plan has come true. :D

At times I feel G1 does its job better since its specials are of acceptable lengths as opposed to… :L

S3: Twilicorn, should have been a two parter.  
S4: Rainbow Power, Discord face-heels and heel-faces too quickly.  
S5: No character design issues, but HUGE complaints about the pacing.

Honestly, it seems like the only issue people have with the finale is, as usual, (vague spoilers) the ending being rushed and the character design.

I’ll just say Rainbow Dash being written phenominally satisfied me more than anything in the finale.
 
I mean she really got jipped this season and this episode coming in at the very end was just what she needed.
