Or, and please follow me for a second, you don’t do that and you draw the character the way you want it to be drawn.
Don’t think too deep and concentrate that it looks nice.
And now I want to see an asian-looking Luna.
That would be nice.

Also, this is a nice pic. :) Even if I don’t really agree with the skin choice, I can see that it’s quite well-made.

I don’t dislike dark-skinned people, but I think the show clearly suggests that Zecora is an African (black-skinned). Thus, zebras represent this race. The ponies were shocked when they saw her - she’s not normal to them. And if you draw so many humanized ponies as dark-skinned, then how can you make Zecora/the zebras unique? I don’t think that the coat color should be an indicator of the humanized skin color. Lauren Faust said (I know she’s not a part of the show crew anymore, but she made the primary rules of Equestria herself) that the ponies don’t judge each other by their coat color.

This means that the ponies are just one of the races, while the Saddle Arabians are Asian/Arabic, the zebras African, the buffaloes Native American, et cetera.

Also, if you really want to make the humanized ponies racially diverse, then I would advice choosing their skin color according to their personality, voice. In this case, I think Luna seems like a European(at least to me). Pinkie would be rather pale (because of having Amish/Puritan parents), but I’d accept a different headcanon too, if it was well thought out. Applejack would have a tan from working in the sun all the time. The dark skinned character could be for example Sapphire Shores(voiced by Rena Anakwe, who is a black actress).

So, while choosing the skin color for a humanization, it’s better to think deeper than the coat color and if the artist explains their decision well, then I have nothing against that choice. Seeing less “troll images” and more carefully-made artworks would really make the humanizations better.

(Please, forgive my grammar and spelling mistakes, I’m not a native English speaker, I just wanted to make my point clear)

@Soarinjack
then why lots of ponies with darker fur have white/light skin color in humanized art?

people draw dark/tanned Luna just to piss of everyone else and start dramas and shitstorms.

@Fwelin
Yes i get that, but that isn’t the most obvious to get off the bat. You have to at least think somewhat to make that connection. Hench why people ask this question over and over.

@seralth
The logic between light Celestia and dark Luna is based on them representing (or sometimes being a literal part of) the day and night, not the times of day they may or may not be more active during.

I wasn’t trying to be defensive. I didn’t think I even sounded mildly annoyed. I was just giving my opinion or point of view on things :D

Being unable to properly convey tone though text is part of why I overuse emoticons. Before then, I seemed even more dour and humorless. My jokes would frighten people since they would think I’m being serious.

@Tragiclady

I think its more the question of luna and not celestia. A surprisingly large amount of fan work makes luna dark skinned and celly light. When really logic would say celly should be dark skinned and luna light skinned. It just seems that most artist flip the obvious choice.

Honestly more dark skinned characters would be welcome just for the sake of breaking things up once and a while tho.

Also you seem to be trying to project defensively on the poor guy for just asking a question. You shouldn’t have to justify your self the way you do when responding to someones question if you are responding to be helpful. Remember that tone is lost online being as clear and direct as you can is always better then justifying your self in saying something.

Perhaps it always feels like there is a shortage of beautiful dark skinned people in fiction?

I’ve only watched some anime, but for characters that are from distant alien worlds or in space, they usually look pretty white if they’re human.

I think Celestia, Luna, Twilight, and the others look just as beautiful with dark skin as they do pale. I still recognize the characters as being themselves :3

why do so many people draw luna tanned, being a pony of the night she should be pale, celestia should be tanned
