I honestly wonder how people would’ve reacted if Fluttershy got together with MacIntosh in season one. Mac had very little personality, Fluttershy’s one of the show’s main characters… would they have lost their minds as bad as with Flash?

now that you said that it’s true, he does have character traits, but they didn’t explored it very well. there’s also the fact that he’s a love interest of pony-twi and the fact that they didn’t explored him made everyone think he’s just a pretty face with no story or personality. i just wish this changes, i’m okay with human flash and sunset beeing together since sci-twi and pony-twi are diferent, but pony-twi have pony-flash so i’m okay with that, as long as they explore him better

Sad thing is, Flash DOES have several character traits that make for an interesting personality, heck I could bring up some good info right now:
 
Flash has a sense of justice as he went to clear Twilight’s name when Sunset framed her. And considering that he used to be Sunset’s boyfriend, that means he memorized and knows exactly how she operates.
 
He also dumped Sunset despite everyone in the school being afraid of her so he clearly wasn’t afraid of a bully or at the very least knows how to spot a bad influence.
 
He’s a gentleman, a bit of a music nerd and a clutz.
 
He has a few character flaws like him not being able to cook (if Friendship Games is any indication), having a bit of an ego when it comes to his music (Banner Day is a good example of that) to the point of naming the band after himself (Flash Drive)… not unlike Rainbow Dash.
 
He’s apparently good friends with Sandlewood, Micro Chips, Lyra and Bonbon.
 
Was considered smart/talented/athletic enough to be picked for the Friendship Games.
 
And here’s an interesting thought: If he’s a Royal Guard in the pony world, that could be carried over to his human counterpart in the form of him wanting to be a police officer.
 
Plus there has been a few speculations on him having a younger brother that’s been seen in a few episodes:

It may not be much, but we’ve done a lot more with much less. Granted, those last part are speculation at best. But you get what I’m saying, these are several facts about his character that can be used to make him interesting, all simply because I explored ALL possibilities for his character, not just the ones I WANTED to.
 
It really bugs me that we come from a fandom where we can take a character that sits differently and make her into a human obsessed nut, a character with an animation error on her eyes and make her into a muffin obsessed ditz, a DJ that had less than two seconds of screentime and make her a party animal that’s dating that one mare from the gala episode, or that one gaming colt that had a two second cameo and make him Sweetie Belle’s love interest.
 
And yet when one character pops up and ends up being the object of the main character’s affections he suddenly “bland” and the bane of the fandom’s existence?! The fact that no one even tries to give him a personality like we’ve done with every other background character in the series is what pisses me off.
 
Flash-hate is pointless, hypocritical, and just plain STUPID.

He’ll eventually establish a friendly connection with the group, leading to an unexpected romance in college. He’ll be unable to figure out which ship name bothers him more: FlashDash or Rainbow Sentry.
 
AJ assures him it couldn’t have been worse if they’d dated.

Because Hasbro forced the staff to create him to begin with, and either they tried to minimize him as much as possible because they knew people would bitch about him no matter what or even they couldn’t stand him.
 
But now they’ve decided that this is apparently better than nothing in regards to him.

I don’t mind them being just friends, also I have a reason to ship Flashimmer. Although that one will also end in friendship, it just makes sense.
