Never liked this movie. I Regret ever being part of this fandom. At least tears are funny to read.

I only agreed with the part you replied to me about.

Despite your unquoted ‘polls’, BP, there is extremely little evidence across the fandom that there was ever a “drastic” dropdown in scoring between Rainbow Rocks and Friendship Games.

Overall when it came out, people welcomed Friendship Games with open arms with no large percentage of detractors. While most considered Rainbow Rocks better since the villains were more dynamic and a few other big benefits RR had over FG, myself included, Friendship Games stood on its own and has tons of praises from its fans. Even though it wasn’t as revolutionary, any ‘damage’ down by the slight increase in high school themes were minimal, and were mostly overshadowed by the other aspects it did really well.

Friendship Games is completely incomparable to EG1. If one was to be generous to your line of thinking regarding FG, Rainbow Rocks would be a 10, Friendship Games is a 9 or a 8, and Equestria Girls 1 would be a ‘1’ in terms of people who actually like it.

You’re welcome to your opinion of course and there’s of course a couple people that think that, but the polls don’t lie: Friendship games is a drastic drop down in scoring from Rainbow rocks in pretty much every brony poll that’s been done.
It usually edges out Equestria girls 1 at least.

Friendship games didn’t help the fandom’s view of EQG– to be honest, it hurt it. Rainbow rocks may have picked it up, but FG frittered it away. Luckily, LOE seems to be a return to RR given excitement and fan reaction so far.

Speak for yourself. For several and myself included, Friendship Games was the best of the three movies. I’ll totally admit that Rainbow Rocks had the better villain and more tension, but FG felt way better in terms of overall characterization.

Its kind of funny, the EQG series has a bigger focus on the EQG than the pony series at this point; they got a table and that’s it pretty much right now.

I’m thinking they’re saving it all up for something big in the movie and they’re in a “Filler” position of spinning their wheels till then, but the EQG series has been free to go hogwild with the EOH doing crazy stuff. (Cumulating with them all getting magical EOH gem necklaces in LOE and super powers from them)

Even if that’s true, what of it? Starlight suddenly becoming Twilight’s apprentice with little of her S5 personality didn’t exactly seem planned. And they would of still been written around the same general time. Pretty positive RR was written before S6.
CronoM

  1. Starlight’s horrible mishandling is mentioned in many places across the fandom, not just discussions about Sunset. She’s been rewritten and self-inserted without the effort into the group between S5 and S6, some of the worst things you can do in writing in general. You can say that Starlight isn’t anyone’s replacement, but you saying that doesn’t mean anything to most others. The comparisons and surplus of same ideas are still there for EVERYONE to see, and the majority of people acknowledge that. And it doesn’t matter if one of them was briefly written before the other or simultaneous, its quite obviously the same ‘character attempt’ was done for both of them but with Starlight its completely half-assed.

  2. The fact that all the movies have been EG so far is irrelevant, the show and the movies have the same viewers. Advertisement for one is advertisement for the other. Whether it be for show or for movies, they are creating material for MLP:FiM and that’s the end of it. The method they have chosen so far is to keep show mostly separate from EG since they aren’t ready escalate the show beyond 2 partners yet. Emphasis on yet. When they release the 2017 movie it won’t be IN the series or called EG either, but there’s absolutely nothing stopping it from containing both continuities.

3)When a story creates two characters with very similar to near identical storylines, one character horribly written and one character superbly written, its only natural when the badly written one is over-emphasized and it doesn’t work, people will mention the well written one since she is the character that would work. Likewise, when the well-written character is under-emphasized while the badly written is being over-emphasized, the same effect will happen because the watchers don’t like watching horrible stuff. Its not saltiness at all, its extremely basic and understandable common sense. And while what is ‘superb’ and what is ‘horrible’ and what is ‘half-assed’ can be quite subjective, the majority of the fandom like Sunset way more then Starlight, and you don’t need a flow chart to figure that out.

Couldn’t agree more. So much movie level stuff has happened with Sunset during post S4 that the EG movies seem to be more relevant impact on the overall lore of Equestria and the Elements of Harmony and seriousness of the material, then a lot of the recent show.

Very true. Starlight isn’t anyone’s replacement. Especially for a character that isn’t part of the show and has never had a presence in the show. I don’t know where people get the idea that Sunset was ever going to be part of the show when she was made for another series. It be like twilight leaving the show to stay with flash, doesn’t make sense.
Bringing up Starlight in an irrelevant image just makes some shimmerfans look extremely salty tbh

It would probably be S5. Season 4 was being written before EQG 1 aired. Usually it takes a little over a year for an episode to go from being written to airing on TV. So Season 5 was written before EQG 2 could come out and Season 4 was written roughly at the same time as EQG 1 was.
