If these two were actually Indian, of course, Saffron Masala would be in an arranged marriage by now - and they wouldn’t have cooked together when she was a child, as they would have wage slaves to do that kind of thing.

In-universe, yes, there’s no such thing as India and they’re ponies from the magical kingdom of Equestria.
 
But they and their food are based on Indians.

I doubt an actual Indian would treat his daughter in as egalitarian a fashion as the episode depicts. Feels like Mike Vogel was just writing a personal love letter to Indian food, at the expense of genuine fine cuisine (which he portrayed inaccurately and negatively).
