I believe it’s a reference to one of the cow and chicken or i am weasel cartoons where the red guy at a counter asks another character: “Can you be helped?”. He does that with a very pitiful rejecting facial expression, suggesting that the other character is beyond any help or require severe medical/mental help.

As a young blank flank mare, she had big dreams of opening her own bakery or restaurant, but she needed some cash to start her business so she took a job at the local fast food joint. At first, she was all smiles and speedy service and that got her several employee of the month awards. Then cruel fate trampled all over her as just when she has about to get the last bit of money, she gained that carrot dog cm.
 
She then saw it as a curse since she wanted to be a restauranteur or a baker, not get stuck in the fast food service industry. Her dreams soon shattered when the day she opened up her own place came and nobody took her seriously due to her carrot dog cutie mark. Eventually, she gave up, closed her business and went back to serving fast food. Her peppy cheery personality soon turned into a sour dreary disposition. She was now and forever tied to being a fast food server and she knew it.

is ‘Carrot Bun’ really what we are going with for her name? surely we can come up with something less… literal.
