I remember reading that but didn’t know that it was canon. Makes her one of the strongest characters, mentally, in the series. Also, makes that bout with chryssie more significant.

I completely agree with you! Poor Cadie. :’(

She’s a very sad character to me. Not enough people recognize that, since her book backstory is canon, essentially, she was turned into a princess by chance - she didn’t know Celestia, she wasn’t trained or taught like Twilght was. And that was when she was a child, at the oldest she had to be age 13 since we see her as a teenager Alicorn in the show.
 
She was an orphan raised by Earth Ponies (which means she was an Earth Pony I doubt anyone was able to teach her how to fly) and all she wanted to do was help her family/friends and suddenly she’s changed so MUCH and has the looming responsibility which made her feel insecure and unprepared and doubt herself…
 
and according to this comic: this never REALLY went away. All this time, all the work she did to be good at something she never asked for, all the work to protect the kingdom that suddenly appeared (like everything else in her life) and all she’s seen as is someone’s wife/mother, someone’s sister, a pretty face… I have to think ever since she was a kid she’s had insecurity and abandonment issues and now even with family and friends she’s still kinda alone. She has no one who relates and maybe even no one who cares since she’s a pretty princess and SHOULD BE happy.
 
I wanna see her overcome anxiety and depression but sadly I think I’m one of the few people who cares about her and so we won’t.

Oh boo hoo, you feel sad because you’re the pretty princess. #firstworldproblems.
