I remember StH Genesis for GBA. 2006 was not a good year for Sonic. (Well, aside from Ian Flynn starting writing on the comic series saving it’s reputation.) Still, it’s amazing they screwed up a Sonic 1 remake. Especially, considering “Sonic Spinball” in “Sega Smash Pack GBA” worked pretty well. (Aside from them removing some of it’s music.)
The 3DS Eshop remake “3D Sonic the Hedgehog” works perfectly though. (Which is also included in the recent 3DS release “Sega 3D Classic Collection.”)
Yeah. Sonic games have a pretty wide variety of genres in their soundtracks. For me, Sonic is my personal favorite on video game music. I can listen to the songs & tracks from most of the games in the series, and never get tired of them. The only exceptions are Sonic Genesis on the GBA and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, although those aren’t really in the main series (I try to forget Genesis is, at least).
I also get tired of them saying all the modern game music sucks, or try to say it’s all lyrical rock songs. Not true, listen to some of the BGM from Sonic Adventure. It has some jazzy saxaphone music, orchistrated themes, techno, and even sythesized themes. Even 2 remixes of themes from “Sonic 3D Blast.” So it’s soundtracks are more varried then people think.
I like the At Dawn theme from SA1, it’s just lovely. I think one of the 3DS themes you can buy has it. (The Dreamcast background theme.)

I don’t care what the old-school Sonic purists & haters say, I love that song.
