Now, granted, I don’t particularly like the update system, but I have yet to see it actually break anything. I could see that it might be a potential problem, sure, but hardly as prevalent as you suggested.
Well, there are plenty of people who mistreats their computers to the point of breaking, but usually it is fairly simple to tell that cases apart from the problems caused by system itself. In case of Windows 10 the root of many problems (the ones that’s not caused by external means) is its update system. Though there is admittedly less cases in which automatically installed update break system completely (which was quite a frequent problem for 7), the imposable update policy and quite bugged process of upgrading system from previous versions (which is frequently started without the user’s content) still could cause much trouble on some machines…
People who need help repairing their computers frequently tend to be the kind of people who break their computers, by definition, and therefore rather a biased sample.
It is actually less about my own machine (which had its share of problems in the past, but overall pretty reliable) and more about some sort of… personal statistics I’ve gathered while fixing other people’s computers (and since it’s part of my job, I’ve seen enough of them to be pretty sure in my conclusions).
You must be just unlucky. I constantly keep my laptop wound up all day with a bunch of programs open and I have no issues. I played Spec Ops: The Line with all options on, ~50 fps, no problems. Sure, my optical drive doesn’t work but I last used it… At some point in the past. I’ve got a Linux server with a DVD-burner that works just fine. I can rely on it.
You might want to be sure your machine’s hardware has remained reliable. It’s easy to blame software.
I’ve been on the Fast Ring of the Windows Insider Program since Windows 10 officially launched and have only had my system crash once. I’m on my computer for most of the day and usually don’t restart it until a new insider build is pushed out.
Edited
Well, than you either very lucky or just using it very carefully. Unlike the 7 (which was, admittedly, quite stable) 10, especially its early versions, crashing much more frequently, especially if it was installed by upgrading from earlier versions. Now it’s stabilized a bit, but if you’re using the system for more than just internet browsing and document editing, it can still show you BSOD from time to time…
Already have, and not one. Perhaps it’s because I use a computer, not a potato.
Just install Windows 10 and work in it for some time! You’ll see plenty of those!
I literally can’t remember the last time I saw a Windows OS crash, and that includes Vista and 8.
From what I can tell the kite has the windows logo color scheme.
In which case it should have been put next to it on the image for juxtaposition.
