April is Autism Acceptance Month. 😊 As I’m born with autism, I wanted to celebrate by drawing some characters I love who I can relate to. 😊 Because of some similarities of me with autism, I always thought some of these characters might have it since they do have traits that might be similair to it. I know it is not officially canon about this, but I still can relate to them so much. 😊 Happy Autism Acceptance Month! 😊

It’s honestly messed up that there’s so many dislikes here, its literally just an autistic persons drawing of characters they relate to for autism acceptance month 😑 Like they’re not saying they have to be autistic they’re not forcing it on anyone they’re just saying they relate to them and think they could have it because of it. Like? Literally 0 wrong with this and it gets disliked bombed. :( Makes me sad

^ This.

Honestly the usage of ‘autism’ to insult everything shows that you are trying so hard to be offensive it’s not even funny.

It’s always “ Autism” this, ‘autism’ that. It’s pathetic.

Fuckin’ A well told. You can blame the internet for that. Edgy, whiny 13-year old fucks who toss that word around on message boards to either sound cool and/or to describe something/someone they don’t happen to like.

Anybody who uses “autism” as a means of insult needs to grow up.

Remember when Autism once meant something and not a means of an insult?

It’s not good to post a picture that needs explaining in the description. This picture bothered me as I expect it bothered many others. It looks like it’s calling these character autistic, rather than being characters the autistic author relates to.
Now that I know it’s just a personal thing though, it makes me wonder why this was posted. It’s not going to mean the same thing to anyone else at all. I saw a birthday image uploaded with a similar “bunch of characters they like in a row” format to it. It’s never gonna be appreciated here unless there are people here that coincidentally have the exact same interests. Or the same relatability to characters. And so on. Although unlike that birthday picture, this one is actually drawn, so it’s a big step up. It’s actually pony art.

I have aspergers and relate to Fluttershy. But she mostly just reminds me of the parts I dislike about myself. And so I dislike her. Marble and Vinyl though, oddly I like them. I hate being mute though, so that’s weird. Maud feels relatable in a positive way… Just as an example of how everyone feels about characters differently.

Images with characters from lots of different series don’t really do well here to begin with, as they mostly appeal to the artist and people who share their exact tastes.

The suggestion that the characters are linked through having autistic traits doesn’t particularly help for people who see them differently. I suspect it’s similar to how certain people object to the Muslim!Shy depiction despite the modesty factor.

Not to mention that “X day/week/month” things aren’t celebrated by many people. Example: there are several national “Coffee Days” and apparently an international one, but the average person either doesn’t care, or gets cynical about how Coffee Day was made up by coffee people to push coffee stuff on us.

But, most importantly, we tend to be a fickle lot here on Derpibooru.

It has downvotes because it is stereotyping. Sometimes people are just strange without an underlying condition.

Oh okay. I did say that I didn’t have a problem with this picture. I myself have autism, and I can certainly relate to at least four characters presented here: Jeff Andonuts, Alphys, Fluttershy, and Maud. But isn’t that the whole point of video games and western animation? To create lovable, three-dimensional characters we can attach ourselves to and relate to?

I think it’s great that this artist made this picture…I don’t know why it has so many downvotes. :(

Frankly, I have no problem with this, but in my humble opinion, the only character that really 100% fits on the autism spectrum is Maud.

You can be smart and nerdy without being autistic. You can be shy, nervous, and even reclusive without being autistic. But Maud just belongs so WELL. Forgive me for the incoming copypasta, but here’s something I posted on TV Tropes WMG section regarding Maud possible having Asperger’s/Autism.

  • Blunt, and sometimes inappropriate, honesty (“It tastes like apples.”)

  • Desires comfort items (a rock she named Boulder)

  • Isn’t very social/never initiates conversation (Maud’s first meeting with the rest of the Mane Six)

  • Doesn’t understand sarcasm, jokes or figures of speech (“It doesn’t talk, it’s a dress.”)
or - Maud: I like this one. (Holds up a dirty dishtowel)
Rarity: (laughing) Pinkie Pie didn’t tell us you were so funny!
Maud: (blinks) What do you mean?

  • Ritualistic/Unusual behaviour patterns such as rocking, sniffing, fluttering fingers, etc. (she sniffs both the sedimentary rock and the jewel she mistakes as an apple spice muffin)

  • Extreme interest in only one or two things, and indifferent to everything else (She knows everything about rocks, to the point she’s written thousands of poems about them.)

  • Fascination with watching/initiating spiral patterns (she rolls Boulder on her hoof while talking with Pinkie on the train)

  • Spontaneous/random comments made during unrelated conversations/situations (“Hmm…sedimentary.”)

  • Unnecessary emphasis/stress on certain words and consonants (listen to how she stresses her ‘t’s)

Maud Pie fits ALL of the above to a T. Just saying. :/
