“She directly said she didn’t know if what she saw was real or just something Twilight had showed her.”

She also capitalized that she doesn’t care about it, as long as it means breaking the Princesses friendships.

“Even then she was hesitating because she was unsure and was now actually listening to Twilight instead of flat ignoring her like she was before.”

I agree, even if she only used one ear :)

“Do we know that’s how it happened? The show sadly didn’t give more details upon it, but we do know that Sunburst moved away and they lost contact with eachother.”

We actually saw her doing just that, and as she said, “He moved on, and I didn’t”. That, plus the line “We turned out different, and it tore our friendship apart!” suggeest it actually was her who broke the bond, not Sunburst. She couldn’t accept that ponies change over time, or that despite differences you still can be friends. Twilight actually says later that those differences are what makes the Mane 6 stronger.
I am curious how will the show handle their reunion in S6, that could shed some light upon it.

“I know people keep bringing up “oh, just send letters, etc” about it. But I think people are over-used to how easy communication is in todays world. During talks with my grandparents and other people who had grown up in pre 40’s times: When a friend moved away, it was essentially the last you ever saw of them. Mail wasn’t free, and even if you were able to send letters, being so far separate from eachother they would often grow apart rather quickly.”

Also true, but, as exhibit A will show us: >>676674t
It’s doable, even if not so simple. As Doc Brown used to say it “If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything”.

“It took Twilight quite a lot of effort to convince Starlight to try it again.”
Actually she went from “I-will-set-the-world-on-fire-as-long-as-you-will-loose-friens” phase to “Let’s hug” in four sentences. That’s quite fast in my book.

“Twilight takes her under personal observation”
Saying that she couldn’t have handled Starlight in the ways of the For… Magic. That’s pretty OP for regular unicorn, by the way. She’s an alicorn, and the Element of Magic too boot. And we know how the rest of Princessess likes to help. So maybe the “tutouring” is actualls some form of cold war?

“Training her in Friendship”
OK, I have to say it. After three years and two seasons I still think Twilight’s in no position to act as a friendship guru. Amending fences showed that in particular. Maybe it makes her more believable, but the fact she can’t event remember names of her friends is somewhat ridiculous to me.
Come to think of it, Moondancer’s story is quite simmilar to Starlight’s… And it was the Princess who just put her friendship aside, moved on and never looked back until Spike reminded her of something she lost. Damn, I actually never thought of it that way. So maybe that’s why Twilight’s so keen on helping her.

Sorry, but I am writing on the fly and now I have to think this through.
Because it starts to look like mine main reason to dislike Glimmer now, is her jumping into the place I still hoped certain once power-crazed mare with firey mane and sun on her flank would fill, in spite of how flimsy chances of that happening would be.
And her manestyle. That too.

“It was timeline that showed Glimmer consequences of her actions, and she still was dead set on using the spell again.”

She directly said she didn’t know if what she saw was real or just something Twilight had showed her. Even then she was hesitating because she was unsure and was now actually listening to Twilight instead of flat ignoring her like she was before.

“Yeah, it just happened because her friend was sent to different school, thanks to his cutie mark. She didn’t even tried to write or anything, she just sat and cried. As Princess of Friendship said it herself – that’s ridiculous.”

Do we know that’s how it happened? The show sadly didn’t give more details upon it, but we do know that Sunburst moved away and they lost contact with eachother.

I know people keep bringing up “oh, just send letters, etc” about it. But I think people are over-used to how easy communication is in todays world. “So, are we to assume that for past ~15 years nopony talked to or tried to befriend her?”

She explained to Twilight that she did purposefully isolate herself. She hid from friendships because she was afraid of being hurt. It took Twilight quite a lot of effort to convince Starlight to try it again. So I wouldn’t say she easily just accepted it.

“That’s not likeable, that’s punishable. By solitary confinement. Or mental asylum”

And at the end of the episode Applejack spoke along similar lines: “Is it really safe to just let her be on her own after that”. And in response, Twilight takes her under personal observation. Training her in Friendship. Think of it as being on Parole with mandatory counseling. They COULD lock her up. But that wouldn’t really help anyone. Twilight is taking the option that allows her to keep an eye on Starlight, Help her grow into a better pony that can go on to help others in turn, and Strengthen the Magic of Friendship in Equestria.

No you misjudged what I said. I specifically said that her revenge on Twilight which lead to this scene had absolutely nothing to do with Sunburst. She was just pissed Twilight urinated all over her “paradise” and her actions in the finale had nothing to do with her trauma at all.

I agree with you on everything else though. Pretty sure Starlight just flat out ignored any help she received which makes her redemption worse because there’s no good reason she’d listen to Twilight especially after she called her backstory ridiculous.
AllHailPrincessLuna

I think what some people are blowing out of proportion are the people who think she killed the world because she couldn’t contact her friend. I don’t like Glimmer in the slightest but that’s just pure ignorance.

Yeah, it just happened because her friend was sent to different school, thanks to his cutie mark. She didn’t even tried to write or anything, she just sat and cried. As Princess of Friendship said it herself - that’s ridiculous.
But the moment she was offered friendship she jumped right into it. So, are we to assume that for past ~15 years nopony talked to or tried to befriend her? And if isolationism was her drive during that time and she dismissed every attempt of breaking the ice why she threw it right out the window the moment Twilight offered her helping hoof? I sure would have taken it, because, duh, Twili, but it was clashing so much with what was established by the show that I cringed.

@Jades
It was an alternate timeline.
It technically never happened.
Please get over yourselves.

It was timeline that showed Glimmer consequences of her actions, and she still was dead set on using the spell again.
“Yeah, Holocaust was pretty terrible, but come on, it was small price to pay for seeing you without friends, Princess”.
That’s not likeable, that’s punishable. By solitary confinement. Or mental asylum.

Um what does this never happening have to do with my comment? I said this scene is plot contrived. Don’t know what this has to do with it never happening but OK? (shrugs)

Heaven forbid people have an opinion that differs from yours and express that opinon in a place designed for discussion, expression and the exchange of ideas. Get off your high horse.

I really want to like this scene. Literally everything is almost perfect about it but ugh it’s a contrived plot twist.
AllHailPrincessLuna

I still can’t get over the fact how “fitting” punishment Glimmer received for that. And shooting lasers during kids competition. And… Ughhh, just go away. Please?
