Corrie has the right idea. While the one you linked looks a lot better than the doodle, it’s pretty clear Rat is leaning heavily on software to get all the assistance he can. The bodies looks stiff, flat and lack a lot of confidence, and it’s probably not a coincidence that large parts of them are covered with scenery. From experience, software can hide/massage a lot, but it can’t make up for bad fundamental anatomy and sense of depth, which is the most obvious thing Rat’s improved on since the doodle happened.

I mean, i can see that there is definite improvement between the right drawing and your link. I’m thinking that the left drawing here is just hand drawn, which if i understand art right, is a whole different beast compared to digital art. I dont think the two images above are the best of comparisons.

Is this legit? I don’t mean to sound like an ass, but in RatOfDawn’s gallery, you’ll see images like >>20108 (which is from April 2011). Was there a regression, or is the left image a joke? Don’t get me wrong, Rat’s style has improved immensely over the years.
 
Or am I dun goofed?
