Ignoring that the sniper’s dad’s stupidity killed his people, just because one of your parents is a scientist doesn’t mean you’re a scientist too. You can’t tap into knowledge you do not possess. Besides which, the fact that the sniper honed his skills in the Australian Outback is not a theory, this is established canon that you can see by reading his character bio on the official site. The sniper may or may not be intelligent, it’s hard to say, but he doesn’t show it if he is.
 
Twilight can be a scientist as sniper, sure, just like she could be a scientist as the scout by understanding cardiovascular exercise, pacing, run-physics, etc. You can come up with an excuse to pair any of the ponies with any of the mercs. Pinkie is sneaky so she’d be a good spy, Twilight bursts into flames a lot so she’d be a good pyro, applejack can run just as fast as rainbow dash so she could be the scout…
 
People choose Twilight as the sniper because it’s familiar, established. It was originally born from the belief that because she lived in a tree Twilight must have had some connection to nature. Over time, people realized how silly that excuse was, so they picked another. It’s just easier. Not only does it require less thought, but it also runs less risk of random strangers picking fights over a difference of opinion, and sadly while we bronies often preach love and tolerance many of us are not very good at practicing either.

Now to the “crussader” who made most of the posts under this picture: because of you and the likes of you proxies are getting banned by the admins of this site. For me (and for many other of my fellow countrymen who are as unfortunate as me) they are the only way for using Derpibooru, which is still banned by some internet providers in my country.
