Like I said I didn’t read the story so I can’t really say how much does it glorify Nazi Germany and how much it just borrows out of their aesthetics and tactics.

I am actually of mixed blood, I have Polish, German and Russian roots and currently live in Ukraine - a country whose territory was constantly invaded by either Russia or Poland (and in the end we were better that way than on our own). I do oppose neo-nazis, but I wrote what I wrote merely because I truly think glorifying nazis is unfair towards people who fought and died against fascists on all sides and especially from USSR as their losses were times greater than anyone else’s.

@woytaq
I said ‘conquered’ exactly because of the betrayal in 1939, because they were just sold away rather than conquered. And I do know of the negative aspects but you said it yourself - Germany was no better, and I bet even worse for most folks (excluding whatever German population you have) what’s with their racism and spontaneous gasing. Why did author not make Germans invade and USSR defend, just like it was IRL? Then it could have been passed as ponification of historical events. But nope, the sides are switched for whatever reason and we have what we have.

To be fair a lot of Polish resentment towards the Soviet Union could also arise from the manner of the communist dictatorship after the war, and the fact that the Soviets did technically invade Poland around the same time Germany did. Thinking about it, most of Polish-Russian history has been one of bitter rivalry. In further defence of Poles during the war, well over a hundred Poles defended my country during the Battle of Britain, the largest foreign contingent we had; they were also among the most successful pilots in the RAF.

Be that as it may, I do wholly agree with you about using the Nazis as the “good guys” in this sort of situation. I have a huge affinity for Germany, so I don’t tar entire nations with a single brush, but the regime was abhorrent. I see a lot of neo-nazi fanboyism, even on these boards, and it is not deserving of any admiration or glorification. (I’m talking in general here, of course) Now, some (many maybe) would say the same about the USSR. But, as you say, we should honour the tens of millions of Soviet people who died to defeat Nazism - an ideology that held Slavs as subhuman and planned to systematically dismantle the Russian nation (not to mention, that whole holocaust thing) - and we can do that without praising a paranoid, homicidal lunatic who locked himself in his room when Nazis first attacked.

Lastly, glorifying the Nazis is an insult to the millions of Poles who suffered under their rule and, dare I say it, smacks of a desire to re-write history to serve a contemporary geopolitical fetish. Just because the bloke currently sat in Stalin’s old office is trying it doesn’t mean we should join in.

There you go, my tuppence on a fim-fiction I haven’t read. :|

I haven’t actually read the fanfic itself, but I know the author and I know that the second world war is his hobby, so his inspirations here are pretty obvious.

However I do have to object to “Poland was one of the countries with highest percentage of people to join the nazi army after they were ’conquered’”.
While it’s true that Poland had a significant portion of its population “switching sides” it was mainly because before the war we had a pretty big German-speaking minority and for over a century before the war Prussia occupied and governed a large section of the country. Implying that Poland was not conquered is unfair and disrespectful towards millions of people killed by Nazi Germany during the war and occupation.
As for the Red Army… they have a pretty bad rep in Poland because of all the raping and pillaging that happened during the march on Berlin. Not that Germans were any better, but they were the big bad while the Red Army was suppose to be the ally (and that is ignoring the whole backstabbing attack in 1939). There were entire cities in Poland untouched during the war because of the large German populations in them, that were destroyed during the final stages of the war by the Red Army despite the fact they were abandoned by retreating Germans.

So yeah, there is very little love in Poland towards both sides, but Nazis got to occupy Poland for 5 years and were utterly defeated, while Soviets stayed for the next 50 and I’m just old enough to remember them leaving. Atrocities of the second world war are largely a part of history, but distrust towards Russia is pretty fresh and sadly still fueled by right-wing politicians.

Like I said, I never read the whole story but I know the author and I know it’s just inspirations for both armies and the conflict and not his worldview that informs his writing.

“Rainbow Dash as the famous ‘Rainbow Death’, the most dangerous and effective pilot of Great Defending War.”

No, she is not. If only the author of the fanfic didn’t make nazis look good and soviets bad by swapping their sides and actually making soviet forces invade nazis… No wonder who wins in the end as well. I hate this fanfic for how positively it portrays the true enemy and belittles the efforts of nation who lost so many people saving the world from this threat >_>

Here is a description of the fanfic, which is available only in Polish from what I can tell (no wonder, Poland was one of the countries with highest percentage of people to join the nazi army after they were ‘conquered’):

“King Sombra returned to Equestria leading the Red Army equipped with T-34, Iliushins-2 and other soviet warfare. Both Princesses did not surrender and used special equestrian warfare: Focke-Wulfs, Tigers and U-Boots.

Mane 6 was leaders of various formations of Maremacht, Luftmare and Maremarine. It will be the greatest, strangest and most cruel adventure for career of Elements of Harmony.

Here are not victory, here is only trial to save everything precious… what left yet.”
