Like how she tried to teach the students in Horse Shoe In about loyalty by talking about making money including equity.
Amusing how?
I know I’m dragging up a dead debate…but looking at these posts with your current avatar and name is an amusing juxtaposition to me.
I am completely content with that. I did my best to persuade you, but sometimes it just comes down to personal interpretation. I loved debating it, and I wish you well.
We’ll have to agree to disagree, because I think I know what you’re talking about, but I didn’t interpret it that way.
@Goobington
Even “toned down”, we still got episodes like “Carousel Boutique” (issues with job satisfaction, burnout, and generally getting pushed around at work), “Brotherhooves Social” (more rejection and loneliness, albeit not the same sort), “Crusaders of the Lost Mark” (borderline-abusive parenting, possibly not borderline), and “Hearthbreakers” (culture clash).
Thanks, now I’m never gonna be able to unsee that.
Season 5 as a whole has been remarkably real.
Twilight dealing with the loss of her home? That’ real.
Applebloom’s anxieties? Real.
Rainbow Dash going through the five stages of grief? Maybe not for a pet, but those stages are real.
Troubleshoes accepting that he’ll just never be happy? Real.
Poverty-stricken Griffonstone? Real.
Moondancer’s rejection and lonliness? Real.
Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep was probably the most fantastical episode in the show, but Luna’s feelings of guilt and self-loathing are pretty real.
They toned it way down for the second half, though. But I’m looking forward to the finale, because I want to see just how far they’re willing to go.
Right in the nostalgia…
And now we know why Ponyverse Carmen Sandiego turned to a life of crime.
I wish I could make a positive contribution to it. Instead, I’ll point out how much
SwingallowsSvenswallowsSvengallop resembles The Chief from the Where On Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? animated series.We’ve seen Spoiled Rich be taken aback, that she was willing to do things that weren’t her standard modus operandi.
Svengallop has not changed from the beginning and the end, he only lost 1 customer.
Not to mention that the bully in question was being bullied herself, by Spoiled, her own mother, whose parenting style seems to go past authoritarian and head straight into tyrannical.
@Raithial
When exactly did she show the potential for change?
Spoiled is worst pony.
While your points on Svengallop are spot on,
and you observations about spoiled may be true, it only enforces my point.
Regardless of what happened in the background, we clearly saw Spoiled Rich berating her daughter for associating with those “lesser than her”, and we also saw her berate her daughter once more for the same reason in front of the ponies she considered lesser than her.
Wether it is intentional or not, a toxic attitude like that is truly dangerous and not just selfish.
I dare even say that if she did it unintentional, which might just be the case considering her reaction to DT’s “throne-grab” if you will, that might just make it worse, because that means that she actually believed that she was doing a good thing in instilling biggotry in her daughter.
Her main redeeming trait is that she was taken aback by DT’s reaction, and did as she was told. But we also have to take into account that it was DT’s talent to make people do what she wanted them to do, ánd that Spoiled was clearly not ready for the confrontation at that point.
So considering outside influences in this equasion also shows that had Diamond Tiara’s talent been anything other than telling people what to do, things might have gone quite different.
HOWEVER, considering how things went, it is quite likely that Spoiled might have learned a thing or two from the confrontation, and might try to make a certain level of amends, the potential of damage she might’ve caused compared to Svengallop is far greater.
So Svengallop is an unrepentant exploiter, but he knows what he does is not just.
Spoiled Rich is a bad parent, who tried to impart her bigotry to her daughter because she thought that would be a good thing.
I consider those doing wrong and who believe they are doing the right thing worse than people who know they’re doing wrong and do it anyway.
“The road to evil is paved in good intentions.”
Now; I also want to add in a little addendum that, while I consider Spoiled Rich the worse pony, that is not to say that she is wholy irredeemable. She has shown the potential for change after all, which is something I cannot say of Svengallop. This is however, not taken in my calculation of who is worst pony. (I pretty much only count that which has been shown on screen, and not the “potential”.)
Your comment pretty much sums up why Glimmer is worst pony, bar none.
@Background Pony #8277
You didn’t ask me, but I’m going to tell you anyway as to why I dislike Starlight Glimmer; Glimmer is, by and large, the most realistic villain that the characters have faced. Most others have been very fantastical and fake; Discord, for example, is essentially a chaotic god who does as he pleases. What he does has no relation to reality in any real way; there is no one like that in real life, and no one has ever been in a situation like that. Starlight Glimmer is a cult leader; cults are dangerous and horrible things that easily delude and destroy people. Look at what Scientology has done, for example. Glimmer being in a more realistic position like this makes it much harder to enjoy her antics, especially with things like that reprogramming room. It wasn’t a fun situation for the Mane 6 to conquer; they weren’t fighting a chaos god or anything like. They were stuck in a cult, and Starlight Glimmer was the leader. Glimmer is probably the last villain I would want to get more screen-time. Of course, this might just stem from how I really, really hate cults…
@youregoingtoloveme
The only pony I can see myself accepting as a new addition to the Mane 6 is Sunset Shimmer, and that’s mostly because she’s already part of the EqG version of the group and has chemistry with them, meaning she’d probably fit in naturally with the equine equivalents too, after some possible adjustment time. (That said, she seems to be in no hurry to go back to Equestria, which is her call, plus it’s actually kinda sweet that she wants to stay with her friends.)
@SeraphimDawn
I’d be thrilled to see their pony counterparts in pretty much any role.
@Crystal Neighybánya
I can’t see Starlight ever admitting she’s done wrong. Even Discord eventually reached that stage, though admittedly it took getting screwed over by Tirek for him to get the message. But Sunset has delusions of righteousness that might prove very difficult, if not impossible, to get her to let go of.
Understandable viewpoint. I just feel that since Spoiled actually stopped and apparently will think about the consequences of her actions that places her as a better person than Sven who just up and abandons everything he claims to have worked for without so much as a thought. Maybe he’s just an emotional moron, and I would love for a reappearance of him and Rara after he’s thought about what happened (he’d be a better vehicle for Princess Spike’s moral), but otherwise he’s just a flat, selfish prick who does nothing but boast and make demands and threats. He’s also a pretty crappy manager, to be honest. He not only doesn’t care about Rara as a person, but doesn’t as an employer(/e) either. He made no attempt to care about or even understand her. Rara said it best when she pointed out that if he knew anything about her, he’d have realized she never cancel on kids.
Back on Spoiled, I don’t view her as a child abuser. A bad parent, for sure, but we don’t get shown anything that I would call abuse, at least nothing intentional. It’s entirely possible that Spoiled was only passing down to Tiara what had been ingrained into her either by her own parents or high society. We’ve seen Manehatten and Canterlot, and Spoiled is no different from the likes of Jet Set and Upper Crust. Those two would probably raise their kid the same. Spoiled was just trying to raise her child the way she thought was best and when shown that she’s been doing it wrong, she actually listens. Tiara then asks her to deliver something to Mr. Rich and she does. There are other possible implications of that, but I like the idea that she’s actually thinking about what Tiara said.
Short version: I value the realization of wrong-doing and desire to improve/repair even if it’s only a subtle moment.
I can actually see her becoming a leader of some secondary Mane 6 group. I know this would never happen. But if the Shadow 5 from FG can appear in pony form as SG’s friends, I’d actually fan scream like shit.
Just because Starlight Glimmer with the main six in the poster doesn’t mean she become a main character, if she been redeemed she will become a recurring character just like Discord.
When it does happen.
Music plays
Yeah, that’s what people think is gonna happen, since she’s with the M6 on the poster.
