It’s an adaptation. And an anime adaptation. Of course they had to make it crazy lol.
Visually, yeah. It is one of the most unique and beautiful animes I’ve ever seen. And I was LOVING the way they did the story. And while the last few episodes were anything but terrible, I was kinda hoping for more. It clearly had it’s own unique identity and wanted to show that by a completely new ending. The adaptation was showing us if Dantes actually never regretted any of the horrendous things he did, if he didn’t care about the ripple effect of his actions, the innocent lives ended and destroyed in the wake of his revenge.
The animation in that anime is just breathtaking, yo. Probably one of the best animes I’ve ever seen.
Good on ya, Japan.
There isn’t a version, to my knowledge, of The Count of Monte Cristo where Mercedes, (Fluttershy) dies. The musical Ink Potts took inspiration from has a pretty happy ending. If you want a, ’Oh God, everything is going to Hell!!”, watch the anime.
