Somber Star
Whatever bird that's dumber than a duck. Imagine I made the effort to research that and make a new badge for it. - Either a complete retard or a full time moron, it's hard to tell which and frankly I don't care either way

  1. Dude that post was 6 years ago.
  2. She has a Cutie Mark, therefore she has some kind of power. Pony magic and society have no respect for what we believe to be common sense. See Cozy Glow.

Things get tougher when she’s sad. People say that in real life, some may lose friends and some may not lose friends.

So I’ve been doing some thinking.

This episode appears after the one revealing that self-destructive habits do exist in Equestria. It is also the one in which Diamond Tiara reveals both what her power is: getting others to do what she wants, or in short, commanding obedience; and that her parents are as subject to it as most anypony else. With some thought, those facts combined add volumes of depth to Diamond Tiara’s character that aren’t apparent at first glance, even when watching the episode. To wit:

  1. The Cutie Mark Crusaders are uniquely immune to Diamond Tiara’s power. Even the Mane 6 reveal their vulnerability to it by mysteriously turning a blind eye to her bullying, despite half of them having sisters who are DT’s primary targets. This in turn means that for Diamond, the CMC are a font of both fascination and frustration as some ponies who actually have the capacity to judge her based on her character, something which she was not prepared for. It also means that the CMC are the only ponies Diamond can interact with normally. Barring the three of them, she has spent her life surrounded by puppets who reward her every action with ultimately hollow praise and prizes, as she can’t tell who’s being genuine and who is only giving her what her power forces from them. This also explains why she can’t win any competition with the CMC. She has no concept of actual competition, because normally she could always just bribe or intimidate whoever she wanted into letting her win, and for the most part the prizes awarded for victory mean nothing to her because they’re usually things only valued by non-wealthy ponies (which is normal, considering where she lives).

  2. #1 also means that Diamond’s parents are subject to her power, as is indicated at the end of the episode when Spoiled cowed to her. This strongly implies that Spoiled might be Diamond’s Tantibus, shaped to be the way she is by Diamond’s desire to be punished for being a bitch (guilt is sometimes naturally-occurring). By extension, it’s entirely possible that Filthy and Spoiled’s behavior aren’t indicative of their real natures, but rather of how Diamond thinks they should behave. Granted, that’s not saying every element of her life is her fault, per se, as she’s indicated she has almost no control over the power, and that’s now, after having had it for more than a year.

  3. Silver Spoon has an odd place in this as Diamond’s longtime friend and #1 lackey. Although she didn’t outright turn on Diamond until this episode when DT refused Silver’s efforts to help her (which is deeply wounding and logically inconsistent enough to break through most mind controls), there have been other signs of a hidden friction between the two, such as when Diamond steals Silver’s milkshake. She has clearly spent years putting up with Diamond’s shit, although it appears the grip of Diamond’s power on Silver is not as solid as it is on other ponies. This may have something to do with Silver’s heretofore unmentioned power of her own. Whatever the case, for the most part Silver does not appear to be acting in a way that is internally consistent with her role. Unlike Diamond, Silver didn’t seem to need a strong, direct external motivation to acknowledge the feelings of other ponies and understand that the two of them needed to at least pretend to change their behavior accordingly. I suspect that Silver genuinely wanted to be Diamond’s friend, so Diamond’s power didn’t actually work on her because it would have been redundant. Unfortunately, Diamond was seeing the world through the lens of her power only failing against the CMC, so Silver was probably viewed as just another sycophant.

I still see some like that actually, but the fact the CMC were willing to forgive her, and even help her after seeing how bad things were going for her, shows how much the CMC have grown-up. Fans could learn a thing or two about forgiveness from them.

Even Tiara deserves a hug once in awhile.

Yeah, I suppose there are at least a hundred haters out there for every pony… and Diamond Tiara more than others. There aren’t that many ponies I hate. Snips and Snails come close but the truth is I simply don’t like their design or their obnoxious cluelessness and I doubt I’ll ever change my opinion.

What makes me happiest about Diamond Tiara’s heel face turn is that the fans seem to have accepted her. I have yet to encounter a comment such as “to little to late you *squee* ill never forgive you i still want u ded”
I think I’d feel genuinely sorry for someone like that.
