Glimmer is one of my favorite protagonists in years. She’s cute, Karen Fukuhara does a great job voicing her, she experiences real character development, she’s unexpectedly badass while still being convincingly vulnerable, and she has chemistry with everyone (I’m particular surprised how well she interacted with Catra and Shadow Weaver).

Nostalgia blindness is a real legitimate thing and rejecting it proves that you’re currently influenced by it.

In modern examples, She-Ra. I never watched the original but I disliked the designs initially because it was too gender ambiguous. But after watching it, I realized I like the characters.
 
The story still sucked ass though. You know, with the obvious good and evil struggle and the topic of forgiveness and abuse (like, fuck you Catra). But you’d be surprised how far good characters can lift a show.

Just a reminder that Nickelodeon passed on Adventure Time not once, but TWICE, and instead greenlit Fanboy and Chum-Chum.

I don’t like pitting the original & new versions of Duck Tales against each other, but it’s fine if some prefer the original. I enjoy both.
 
That said, one thing I kinda prefer about the old ‘80s Duck Tales is maybe the more smoother retro art/animation Disney style, but mixed with high quality overseas TMS Japanese animation, as opposed to the modern angular style, which most modern cartoons have. Regardless, I like both animation styles, and both are quite good.
 
Another thing about the modern show is it’s a bit more P.C. which rubs some the wrong way. Like for example, Burger Beagle is no longer fat, but I suppose his old goofier fat “Do you have something to eat?” stereotype character might not be very appealing, nor funny nowadays with obesity, and “body-shaming,” becoming a more serious issue. (Though, not like his newer lankier version seems to have much character either. Has he ever spoken yet?)  
Some are also mixed on Webby’s new personality, while some argue she’s a more stronger character now, some find her more hyperactive tomboy personality a bit annoying.
 
Though, I kinda like that Fenton/Gizmoduck is Hispanic-American now, and how they don’t make a big deal about it like some shows do with “minority characters,” and how he isn’t stereotypical, or anything, and still retains many of his original personality traits.
 
Another flaw is, at times the show focuses to much on the kid characters, but the ’80s show was guilty of that too sometimes, as well.  
Regardless, of the flaws, the new Duck Tales is definitely a worthy reboot.

Yang: still not slee….(falls asleep)

You say that, but remember that Blockbuster passed up on the decision to buy Netflix.

That I can sort of understand, because it’s pretty much competing with itself. It’s investing in the technology that would make it’s core business obsolete. There’s all kinds of weird conflicts of interest there.

I don’t think they could predict that, plus it’d be a bad business decision to not buy-off something that could benefit your company.
 
In fact, back then streaming, and such wasn’t as good as it is now, which is why Blockbuster turned ’em down.

No that happened a long time ago, when Blockbuster still had stores everywhere, and Netflix basically just started it’s business.
 
I admit, I kinda miss video rental stores, or even just stores that only sell videos.

I enjoyed walking around in them and looking at the truly weirdo films they had on the shelves. Things like “Scalps” (murderous zombie Indian goes to town on blaspheming palefaces, unintentional hilarity ensues along with idiotic gore) or “Devil Fish” (may be the worst sea monster movie ever).
