Japanese is not a right-to-left language. Example: “これわだいじょぶです。”
And not all right-to-left languages, such as Hebrew, flip like Japanese do, where they stop being right-to-left top-to-bottom and become top-to-bottom right-to-left. The panel and balloon order is different, but within the right-to-left balloons the reading order is left-to-right unless it’s top-to-bottom in which case it’s right-to-left.
So - the language is generally left-to-right (unless it isn’t) but the order of the panels and the balloons within the panels is right-to-left.
So just saying right-to-left doesn’t capture the whole dynamic of the Tategaki versus Yokogaki and the crazy that can happen when you take a Japanese language comic and translate it to English without flipping it.
Also, right now the problem is only with English translations of Japanese comics that have not been flipped for English readers.
