Well, there’s no use in running I guess start a staring contest.

 
So when does Mirror Magic take place, anyway?  
It was released sometime around early/mid season 7,  
but at least one of Starlight’s lines suggest otherwise:  
‘she wants me to learn as much as I can about friendship’.
 
Since Starlight graduates in the season 7 premiere,  
which seems to take place almost immediately following season 6 finale,  
I figure this ‘Starlight joins Sunset on an EQG field trip’ episode  
must be from near the end of season 6, probably right before the finale,  
because she seems a lot more confident in this special than she does earlier.
 
‘Every Little Thing She Does’ (s06e21) -> ‘Mirror Magic’ (eqg special) -> To Where and Back Again (s6 finale)

The way she acts in Mirror Magic really convinces me that Starlight’s younger than Sunset and Twilight.

I actually think it was during the events of the episode “Not Asking For Trouble”.

I always got the impression that Sunset was the oldest, since she was Celestia’s student before Twilight. Starlight is probably only a couple of years younger, at most. Trixie is probably Twilight’s age.

Basically how I feel about their ages.

You know how in any group of friends past high school, you’re going to have most be around the same age, a couple who are quite a bit older, and then one or two that are significantly younger? That’s how I view Starlight. Like, she’s the 19-year-old friend in the group that’s mainly 22 or 23.
 
I think most fans got the impression that Starlight is older than Twilight because of her old hairstyle and her voice, but from the way she was written prior to Shadow Play, she always struck me as being this young prodigy who somehow started her own cult and established a little village. She’s powerful, but just very naive and carrying a boatload of issues from childhood.

I don’t know, she can still be the oldest of the mane 6. I like the idea of her being slightly older and experienced yet still makes a lot of mistakes and a bit immature. but that’s just my impression of her.
