Pony Venting Thread

If g5 had plastic surgery and it did. I don’t like it. Liking TYT is akin to liking other reboots like Teen Titans Go. Speaking of which, it (TYT) unfortunately became its new identity. That one aside, it seems as though the g5 fanbase now finally has their own internal problems.

I’m feeling reluctant to draw my OCs lately. Images featuring them don’t do nearly as well as when I draw canon characters. Which sucks because I like coming up with unique scenarios for them. Think I might just get commissioned art of them instead…

The more I think about it the more i keep wondering if G5 is really for me or not.

I’m not saying I hate it or it’s bad. I like the cast and I really liked the movie, but the actual shows/shorts… they started ok just just became really “ehhh”… on a lot of fronts.

Also no interest in the comics either, abd from what I’ve seen here none if them interest me.

I do feel bad that for the people involved in G5 because of Hasbro constantly shooting itself in the foot and trying to screw over the gen as much as possible, but even before all that was revealed I wasn’t liking how the Gen was going (Though tbf I feel like FIM also started dropping the ball during its later seasons abd the quality took a dive imo).

G5 to me has fun potential and interesting story setups. And most importantly, cute and likable characters.

I feel like the core issue that happened with g5 was poor management with a ceo with less ambition then the last.
It did feel like Brian Goldner has big ideas for the ips, under him the company bought an animation studio.
But under chris cocks, They went back to outsourcing, then just sold that studio.
Really even at the toy Department it was lacking, They were barely selling anything.

They were barely even making anything, yet they were still expected to sell those toys anyway.

Power Rangers can also be a perfect example. Cosmic fuel was the first season to have a completely new original set of ranger suits.
Yet nothing they sold nothing of them.
Just a morphar then later Ben day outsource because the ip didn’t meet that expectations in sales, Dude you didn’t sell anything

I almost don’t blame Cocks. He really did inherit a mess. Even if he totally wanted to fulfill Goldner’s plan, no one other than Goldner knew what the plan was. So Cocks could either go through the motions with a plan he didn’t understand, which came with some unhealthy looking cash flows he didn’t know how to justify, or he could start over. He’s chosen to start over. I don’t like it, but I get it.

Thing is I do like the characters and see potential, but the actual stories are leaving a lot go be desired imo

It’s a shame that the fifth generation got screwed over as badly as it did. I’m kinder to it than most and it had potential to be something greater, but Hasbro didn’t see the forest for the trees.

I wish Hasbro found a better successor to the late Goldner.

I think “missed potential” and “Hasbro is stupid” sum up this generation very well

Also the same universe as g4 idea probably wasn’t the best idea, Not necessarily because of the show itself.
But g5 was already going to be compared to g4 but that just made it worse.
Pretty much but in g4 became a common complaint.
I still see people say it made g4 pointless.
Some people were pretty much upset the movie wasn’t a big info dump of what happened between generations

You could scrub all references to G4 from G5 with minimal impact on the overall plot, as if G5 was originally intended to be its own universe until Hasbro tacked on the G4 connection as a marketing gimmick.

G5 really would have been better off if it was in its own continuity rather then being a follow up to FIM

I didn’t mind G5 being in the same continuity as G4, but I do wish we’d gotten an actual explanation to what happened between the last episode of “Friendship is Magic” and the movie to cause the three pony races to separate and magic to disappear. Like how the heck did Opaline succeed where every other villain had failed?

Never cared for it except they kept shoving it in our face as “the plot advancement” when it’s nothing. I don’t care if they pushed it as a post-epilogue afterstory. But nope, the very good stuff had to come way later. Too late that is.

Guilty as charged, I wouldn’t have cared if instead we got not-mane six and not the mane six. But thanks to that idea, many questions are hanging in a forest.

Which I suppose is not helping that said power is supposed to be the equivalent of a one Tirek than supposedly the entire trio or even Grogar himself. Or even Twilight because she herself hasn’t mastered Saiyan like abilities. So understandably, you wouldn’t think Opaline is powerful nor believed Twilight and her friends when they even just said it from their mouths that Opaline’s unlike any enemy faced before.
