I think only a few badges should be automatic.

If users are going to get multiple badges the user should be able to switch between the badge they want to display.

Seconding these, especially the “Refugee” badge.
 
The sockpuppet badge would fall under the duck for bad behavior. Having multiple badges for various types of bad behavior sounds like a bad idea, because it would encourage people to get all of them.

I don’t know; most samefags go out of their way to not be caught for their samefaggotry. I agree people would go out of their way to get most bad awards, but not the samefag one. When you’re trying to cause a ruckus with samefaggotry and you’re outed, your troll cred hits zero and everyone points and laughs. Most elegantly displayed by Bhallspawn/TaraCallie/Various BP Ponies here
 
More than anything, it would be a handy means of outing people who use sockpuppetry to troll. I know people use multiple accounts for legit reasons like maintaining different filters or whatever; this badge ain’t for them. It’d be for ousting guys who try to circlejerk. Like you’d see Duckinator and TotallyNotDuckinator playing off of each other, yet both would have the little sockpuppet icon, so people would just laugh at them. Drama averted. Hopefully.

We could set up a system there are art badges for images.

It’s from the site’s creation up to the PB close-down announcement. It’s specifically for the people that came to the site before eco/seth directed people here.
 
Will likely make another one to cover everyone that joined in the two weeks after the PB announcement, but won’t take activity into account due to how many it’d cover. Also not sure on icon or name. I was thinking something more positive sounding than “refugee”, like “settler” or something…

Slightly related, does anyone know the exact moment when Ponibooru was locked down? We all know the date (Sunday June 17 2012), but who knows the time? It was working at 14:15 UTC because that’s when I downloaded the last image from there (that image is not on Derpi).
 
My browser’s history says I posted some comment and browsed the site normally around 14:45 UTC, but by 15:16 UTC (confirmed using a screenshot) it had been locked down. (I have a faint recollection about F5’ing the front page around 15:00-15:05 UTC and there was no lockdown message yet, but this is probably a false memory; due to the way Firefox’s history works I cannot confirm this.)
 
My first Derpi comment was posted at 15:34, so I don’t qualify for the “since the beginning” badge.

As A Ponibooru refugee myself, I second this (and think that the badge system itself is a neat idea)

A badge for frequent posters/posters who have over 100 posts, 1,000 posts, etc.?

I think it would be good if the badges told you what they were for when you hovered over them.

I’m pretty sure they already do that.

I have no idea when I joined, but I’m reasonably sure it was at some point after Ponibooru went read-only. I remember spending a while figuring out whether I wanted to make an account here or not.

But seriously, this sounds like a fun idea. Maybe an upload-based badge that wouldn’t encourage spamming would be something like an award for having your lowest scored image being above a certain value. So you could have an “OP is not a duck” badge (or something with a better name) if all your uploads have a positive score, and a “Quality Poster” badge if all of your uploads have at least 50 points.
