@Dustcan
Which I guess shows that Terraria outselling Super Mario Bros is to at least some extent simply because the audience is larger now than it was in 1985. Not that Terraria is a bad game at all, it’s my second most played game on Steam behind Gmod.
Nintendo is finally suing Palword. Interestingly it’s not over copyright, but patent rights. I guess that means instead of targeting monster designs, they’re going after similar mechanics like catching mons.
@Natry
So I guess dual types are also a patent, since Temtem, Nexomon and Coromon only have single-types… And this lawsuit would kill off all three of those as well if Nintendo wins. Then again, in my original IP Coreward all three along with Palworld and Battle Gem Ponies were merged into Pokémon when Buy’n’Large, Cyberdyne, Tesla/X and Exxon-Mobil-BP-Shell merged into Black Marble. I have the Gen29205 Regional Dex to prove it. It has Ponatina and Lapidarian Abaddog.
@Meanlucario
Yeah also it has a sequel so getting people hooked to hope that forbidden West can sway them to a PlayStation instead of Xbox isn’t a terrible idea,
@Mikey
I think it’s an image thing. Like imagine if Fasa sued CDPR for adding daylight to Cyberpunk 2077. That’s probably what it is. I’m pretty sure that’s also the reason Hagwarders were changed to humans.
@Wiimeiser
I also think they realized that while the designs are similar, they don’t want to sue them for copyright infringement, since they at least tried to be original.
Only thing is, yup, the catching mechanic.
Though i’m not a lawyer. 🤷
@Background Pony #31A2
And people on the Palworld Steam Discussions are saying it’s basically a way to stamp out competition: by subjecting them to lengthy and costly lawsuits that drag on as much as possible and bankrupting them.
There’s likely something specific in Palworld they’re going after. There’s tons of other Pokemon copycats out there with very similar mechanics, some of which Nintendo themselves have promoted
@Thanotos Omega
The game already has a PS5 upgrade and is readily available on PSN and Steam, and already looks fine as is. Remastering it is just a huge waste of money and resources
@Meanlucario
I know it’s a fools errand but we should try and organize a boycott of nintendo over this. If nindendo doesn’t feel consequences for it’s actions it’ll never stop and only escalate.
I’m doing my part I’ve furloughed my switch and I’m strongly considering getting a steam deck to replace it. if you must engage with pokemon content, go looking for fanart and comics. you get to experience some of pokemon at nintendo’s expense.
