There was a time when I use to enjoy watching these, now it’s just an endurance test. And this year he has to talk about something Jurassic Park related because he can never let go of his hatred for the franchise.

I’m still disappointed Shinobi-03 took down his response videos to Doug’s reviews because they were the only things defending those movies from his awful critiques (Also he never made a video for Dominion either).

Doug has started releasing videos for his latest Disneycember, and apparently because Disney owns Hollywood Pictures he decided to use that as an excuse to re-review the live action Super Mario Bros. Movie again.

I am glad that he decided to finally talk about this movie again since his original review was so atrocious, I get it was one of his earliest reviews and back then they had to be short because of YouTube’s rule, but I always had an issue with it because Doug wanted to tackle it from a fan perspective but ended up just criticizing it for surface level reasons (and even then he still made mistakes like not understanding why they chose to have Mario & Luigi’s last names be Mario).

This review is a lot better, and it shows that Doug has at least matured a bit since he at least finds the movie entertainingly bad which is how I now view it myself, he even went to the trouble of actually addressing other characters in the movie like Toad, Iggy & Spike and even addressed Koopa not being called Bowser; with that said he still didn’t bring up Daisy being in the film instead of Peach, Yoshi being in the film, or Mario’s girlfriend Danielle who many people mistaken for Pauline.

All in all this was a long time coming, and I prefer it over his first review, that said I still recommend watching other reviews for this movie like James Rolfe and Clipped Coin.

He just did Nimona for DisneyCember And I think he doesn’t know that the movie was put on netflix because blue sky was shut down by disney

No I totally agree, whether it’s his clipless reviews, demo reel sketches, or Pop Quiz game shows, Doug really doesn’t understand parody and satire like he thinks he does or how to mesh them with his reviews.

Doug did a Top list for funniest Disney villains, and I agree with a lot of the entries; Madam Mim, Captain Hook, Ratigan, Kronk, and Prince John all make the list (Sadly no Bowler Hat Guy or King Candy)

I’m glad Hades made #1 even though Doug’s opinion of Disney’s Hercules is lame, I know it’s not a perfect film but Doug had no right trashing it the way he did in his Disneycember review.

Yeah looking back at his older content I do question why I thought he was funny, guess it was my naiveté at the time. Though some jokes can be funny, but Doug himself is so over-the-top and his voice can get irritating to listen to.

The first videos of his I saw were actually his “Ask That Guy” videos. They’re not all good, but it did have one of my absolute favorite jokes ever of his.

The first NC videos I saw were his Secret of Nimh 2 and Neverending Story 2 and 3 reviews. At the time, no one else had really riffed on or analyzed these terrible movies in any capacity, and it was cathartic in a way.
If you were to ask me to recall any jokes or points he made though, I’m afraid I don’t remember a single thing.

Unironically, a lot of brony “analysts” (you can guess which ones) take inspiration from Doug Walkner, and their content is just as if not more obnoxious - with their unfunny humor and loud waffling proving to be more cringeworthy than thought-provoking and engaging.

Well I know for sure that BigJackFilms and Bobsheaux took inspiration from Doug when making their videos and it does not translate well.

I think the first time I got into watching Doug was his review of Son of Mask, I hated that movie so much that seeing someone else talk about how bad it was did give me comfort.

Pretty much just him playing old cosby ads and making sex jokes

Is he for real? Did he actually make a Top 10 that is just the same topic and joke the entire video? I know Doug has become creativity bankrupt, but this is just sad.

Indeed - especially with better critics nowadays like Karsten Runquist whom put actually criticism first and amateur/immature humor dead last.

The existence of Doug Walker damaging the reputation of comedic reviews is a mixed bag, IMO. Like, I don’t think everything has to be serious analysis without jokes or whatever. Comedic review/riff videos should be allowed to exist as well. Doug’s videos are just not good.

Main problem with his comedy style of reviews is that the joke takes priority sometimes.
Even in the early days he would misrepresent a movie Just for the sake of a joke.

Plus it’s not always easy to tell what is a legitimate criticism and what is just a joke. Like that bit him and Andre did in the Smurfs review where he questions why Papa Smurf is afraid of onions, is this meant to just be a comedy routine or is he really just that stupid not knowing onions irritate your eyes and make them water.
