As Natry said this is the big problem with local elections. People without a long history tend to “start small” and go local, so it’s difficult to research anything.

Google is your friend here as always, but it’s also best to just ask neighbors and such. If you’re stuck in a line somewhere or shooting the breeze with a stranger, ask them about the candidates and see what they know.

I live in a conservative household and know none of my neighbors. My options are low.

An opinion is still an opinion. Conservatives are unlikely to be voting in the Democrat primary, but you can still shoot in the dark for something.

If they say such-and-and such is a dirty socialist doesn’t mean anything. If they say they’re a dirty socialist because they want to give free healthcare or something then hey you found a candidate’s policy.

IDK how it works in the US, but I’d expect that you could also call the candidates and ask them why you should vote for them. They should be happy to convince a voter.

Domestic politics aside, the timing on this is hilarious. China’s making noise about how big and strong their military is, and the US just casually saunters up like, “Hey, we just executed a terrorist from 40,000 feet, because that’s what we do to people who threaten American lives. Okay, bye!”
