Unpopular opinion time (super alpha no pony edition)

I don’t like many 80s cartoons. They’re all slightly less cheap than those from the 70s.

I like characters with a decent range of versatility. It’s funny to put a character in different kind of situations.

I’m mostly talking about narrative versatility, though I wouldn’t mind if the character can have many skills or contrast.

That’s kind of why Mario for example has succeed. Granted Mario was deliberately made without a strict continuity anyway, but I like the versatility of the characters.

I’m not really mad about live action remakes anymore. If they want to spend time on schlock for normies then whatever.

The only thing I demand is good animated movies in return so if Dreamworks comes out with great animated movies I may just forgive their inevitably lame remake of HTTYD

I feel like Mario is more adaptable than say someone like Link or Ash Ketchum. Mario can be in so many settings whereas others are more restricted by their worldbuilding.

And yet I fin Ash rather versatile from what I remembered from a narrative stand point. Victories, loses, weird contests, whimsical disguises, I do remember he often could beat pokemon ignoring the type advantage (which honestly mostly only works for the games since the anime kinda throws it away). Despite being a bit more continuity heavy Ash was (usually for the better, ocasionally for the worst) also pretty versatile overall even if his goal was clear. You could put it in a different situations and you know he’ll find a way to make a story out of it.

Ash is the anime character. Red is the silent protagonist in the games. Casuals.

I remember it since the game characters are named after the versions.

I really dislike the mindset that because a critic liked it or disliked it, that means that the product is good/bad and that their words should be taken as a fact. TV Tropes calls this “Reviews Are The Gospel” and in my humble opinion, they are not.

Honestly, I feel like people act like critics have more sway than they do. Reminds me of the The Day Before studio heads claiming that their game failed because of their critics, ignoring that the game itself was trash and if it was actually good, no one would care what the critics say.

I feel like Asia/Asian culture gets fetishised way too much and all the “East vs West” debates that come from it are really dumb

That’s the issue with weebs. I don’t mean people who likes anime or the culture/history of eastern civilizations, but those who fetishize it.

It’s mot just weebs, its also the people who put Asian beauty standards go ridiculously high levels and say that Asian women/men are “objectively” more attractive then “ugly” Western people

Those are people who are unhinged and act like their fetish should apply to everyone. We get plenty of those people in the video game industry (and you can detect them by how they freak out at peach fuzz and women having pores and other normal human features).

Film studios using sites like Rotten Tomatoes to boast about how good their movies are in their trailers doesn’t help either

Honestly, I’ve never seen that. Sounds like something they do out of desperation to try to get people to watch their movie.

As an Asian myself, I think a lot of people around me are ugly as hell.

Oh believe me, they do. After movies get released, studios make trailers where they flaunt all the positive reviews from critics and show if a movie has gotten 100% or at least a very high score on Rotten Tomatoes as some sort of seal of approval.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but Joaquin Phoenix Joker is worse than Jared Leto, especially after Joker 2.

I think hermit crabs are better and more versatile pets than dogs and cats.

They also live longer as well.

For all its flaws I feel like Reddit is still more enjoyable than Twitter.

You just have to be in the right subreddits and avoid the really toxic ones especially when they get too political.

But if you curate the right ones you’ll find it a pleasent experience.

Every site is enjoyable if you’re in the right part. I used to have a lot of really good time on Tumblr because I followed the right people.

Nothing like seeing model making subreddits or acrylic painting or my favorite the PMD subreddit to make my day funner.

The only good car Jaguar has ever made in their career was the XJ220. The rest sucks.

Their latest rebrand looks like they wanna start making girly perfumes and outfits.

The term “pretentious” is abused too much.

The official definition of pretentiousness is “attempting to impress by affecting greater importance than actually possessed.” So basically people who try to seem smarter or more important than they really are.

I see people misuse the term “pretentious” to refer to music that’s simply complex. Like it’s a sin to have musical complexity. That’s the justification that people have used for decades to say that progressive rock is pretentious, while punk rock is “real” and genuine.

Which is funny, because as someone who’s done work in both genres, punks have consistently been the most pretentious people I’ve ever had to deal with.

I don’t get the appeal of Sonic.exe, nor the sudden resurgence of it and the countless spin-offs
