Define, “Near the end” because for My Little Pony I can pinpoint certain episodes and moments that made me go “fuck this”(especially S9’s garbage penultimate episode), and soured me enough to where even Pony Life felt like an improvement. I can still go back and enjoy the first few seasons just fine but the later ones I still haven’t even bothered going back to

Back when I was a teen, I loved it. Then, many years later, I asked myself that’s about it that I love. I got nothing and, as a result, I stopped caring about it, especially after watching Kill la Kill.

As an example for me, I absolutely love the fantasy-comedy-adventure graphic novel Bone. But there’s one part of it at the very, very end, like the last few pages, that really bothers me (spoilers inbound): After all they’d been through together, Fone Bone and his cousins leave to go back to Boneville and leave the Valley behind.

I don’t know. It feels like it was an ending where the creator started off with one ending in mind, but then the plot progressed, characters developed and grew in ways that had not been planned, and by extension the ending would have to be changed to match this development that had happened… except he went with the original ending instead despite it not making sense for the characters at this point.

It wasn’t enough to make me hate the series, but it always puts a damper to my enjoyment every time I re-read it.

Power Rangers Dino Charge.
This series was so much fun. The Rangers and villains were interesting, likable and funny. Sure, there were clunky things like the odd little white faces on all the monsters, that indicate sone kind of connection, but that’s a small detail. We had new characters with fascinating personalities, that we all hoped would be expanded upon. Then the second half started getting weird. What should have been B-stories became the main focus, characters meandered around, characters and elements expected to appear were just dropped. Then the Rangers go back in time and negate existence. They return to the present to find dinosaurs still around, coexisting in the modern day. Then it ends. At first I was like, oh, so they’re still going to have adventures, even though the series is over, right? Like, now they have to time travel to fix things, right? No. We got a Christmas episode follow-up that cemented the unfortunate fact that the Rangers decided,
This also led to the absolutely unnecessary decision to have Dino Charge be in an alternate timeline, disconnected from the “main” series.
The Dino Charge cast has made a few appearances since, and they’re usually a highlight, making it all the more baffling why the producers or whoever would shove them into another dimension.

That’s a very low bar

Makarov’s revival in the final arc of Fairy Tail.

I didn’t “hate it,” but I found it severely disappointing that even after how heartwrenching his death was, Hiro Mashima still couldn’t go through with killing him off for real. The arc as a whole has a problem with having a character’s death stick, but this one absolutely takes the cake.

The worst part is that he clearly didn’t have any problem killing Zeref, Mavis, God Serena, August, or Acnologia off in that exact same arc, and yet he still got cold feet about offing anyone else.

Admitibly, I pretty much knew he wasn’t going to kill Natsu or Gajeel no matter what, since they’re a part of the main cast, but why give Makarov, Layla, and even ICHIYA an honorable sacrifice, and then reverse it all at the end?!

Here’s a spicy take of mine: Immersion is overrated. Great lore is one thing, but why do I want to immerse myself in an RPG? Shouldn’t I be more encourage to role-play rather than self-insert?

Enjoyability comes to mind. Freedom to roleplay what you want. That kind of stuff.

I only watched snippets of the Buzz animated show as a kid which I do not remember but I will say it looked colorful and vibrant there.
