Especially since these days online nobody bothers to actually be involved with a conversation. Never reading into it and taking in what is going on around them. No, rather everybody is just throwing their own crap at the wall hoping everybody else will fawn over what THEY said, resulting in entire comment threads of disjointed and unrelated comments that go nowhere. Questions never finding answers. So forth.

It’s an era of true selfishness and desperate loneliness.

There weren’t any Nazis in the fandom until people started saying there were. Then the crawlies from the dark pits of the internet got drawn to the Brony fandom drama because a certain clout chaser on Twitter made a huge rumble about “Nazis” in our midst; when in reality it was just a Nazi themed pony nobody took seriously until that time, including her fans.

Twitter man took an edgy joke personally and wrecked the fandom, then the real unironic low hangers started creeping in because of the visibility of the drama bomb.

Likewise, a bunch of reactionary artists wanting to harbor as much good PR as possible ejected from Derpi without knowing the full story just because.

Bro I don’t want to burst your rainbow bubble, but there were absolutely unironic nazis (or neo-nazis, whatever) in the fandom, and vocal about it. This historic revisionism of “it was all just ironic, just jokes” might make you feel good and comfy, but there were and are definitely people in the fandom, including artists, that were openly hyper right wing racists, and in many cases outright fascists/nazi apologists.

The problem was obviously never as bad as clout_master made it out to be, and the little shitfuck was an eager and willing participant in promoting pro-nazi, rape, and foalcon porn until he started to become popular, but please don’t drop nonsense like “There weren’t any Nazis in the fandom until people started saying there were”, because that’s fucking bullshit.

Okay fine, I never encountered them until people said they were there- and I had my fingers in a lot of pies since the very founding of this fandom.

Also, who the hell are you? Not to sound high and mighty but I have seniority on a LOT of people in this space and therefor plenty more experience and authority on what and wasn’t since 2010; so at least have the decency to not insult me by being an anon. Otherwise I am just going to assume you are a Zoomer who joined years after me and are basically going ga-ga goo-goo at me defiantly.

Just as a side note, if you think my tone here is too combative then in the future I suggest you work on your own approach. I generally respond to people in kind, “bro”.

I’ve been “here” since before ponibooru was a thing, I was on 413 and stevechan, on ponychan while at its best, I saw the the first r34 from no-ink posted live, and I saw the origins of “the fandom” on /co/, before the ban. Don’t come at me with your silly argument from authority crap.

You may have had your fingers in a lot of pies, but you should have rummaged around to feel what was in them.

And don’t insult me by pretending you never heard of thiscrispykat or ever noticed the abundance of anti-semetic (never mind anti-black) art in the fandom. Did you really never see all the “happy merchant” shitposts, the vast popularity of “why is twilight a nigger” posts on ponychan? The neverending stream of edits to “fix” humanized images? You really think all of those were just ironic edgelords without any of them coming from the genuine article? Please.

Don’t act like you’re some sweet angel victim here; you started off stating categorically there were no nazis in the fandom, it was just some twitter invention. That’s bullshit, and I don’t know which would be worse, you knowing it or not.

And miss me with the “shitty attitude” crap, you’re the one here that came in acting like an authority figure, you’re the one that started hurling insults around, and you’re the one that only knows how to respond to opposition with just more insults.

Maybe focus that angry energy on something productive, like finding a new room mate that isn’t a meth dealer.

People ask me what the worse thing about being a volunteer on Derpibooru is.

They ask what it takes to break someone who chooses to volunteer here. Is it being DOXed? Is it the hate mail? The phone calls at work trying to get me fired? People editing my art to make me look bad or make it look like I’m pro-Nazi or worse? The death threats from people who I thought were my friends? The IRL gore or child porn showing up in comments on my other art galleries? The random anon standing in my driveway at 2 AM because they ‘just want to talk’ about Twilight’s wings?

Sure - they’re massive pains in the ass, but they’re also a part of the gig. You get used to it.

But you know what fills me with so much utter regret that I almost nope out of here?

Seeing who everyone here is. Knowing that this profile is really that person, or this anon poster is also this anon artist. And then seeing some of my favorite artists going after each other in comments.

Some of you are why I joined this fandom. Some of you are why I left /b/ and came here to see if there was anything I could to help. Some of you make me wonder if I’m putting the right curve into a hip, or the right sparkle in an eye. Some of you are why I still draw at all, because I see what you do and I think; “Wow! Why didn’t I ever do that angle? Why didn’t I ever notice that bump of the hip? That curve of the spine? That twist of the ankle?”

Don’t get me wrong - I don’t expect any of you to agree with each other. You’re artists. You challenge expectations and break rules all the time - and you learn how to stand by your instincts, your inspiration, your muse. It’s what being an artist means. Normal (healthy) people will never understand.

So … please - whatever is under your skin today, go draw it out. Or scream at a wall. Or go have fun with friends. Or play a game. Or break a fucking table.

And if you can’t do any of those things (and I know for a FACT that some of you have no hope of doing anything fun in the near future) please do be kind to yourselves. Do what you need to be ok, and to have an ok day.

Because sometimes just having an ok day is pretty amazing.
